I hate to sound rude, but that's a horrible reason to return it.

Not really. Without being privy to the specific reasons as to why the issues are occuring, how can one be certain the issues are resolvable or resolvable without losing some critical level of functionality? That said, I certainly can't blame someone for returning it. Perhaps once November comes around, they might be willing to take the plunge if the issue is fully resolved. I have a replacement arriving tomorrow with hopes that this issue does indeed only affect a small batch of phones. I haven't decided how I will proceed after that should the replacement exhibit the same issues. But most reports seem to indicate a replacement phone has resolved it for most.

Or it could be with Verizon's network issues recently...

Seems unlikely to me. Otherwise other phones on the Verizon Network would be experiencing similar issues...

no, the verizon rep yesterday showed me an email they got LAUNCH DAY describing a known bug affecting 3G/4G connectivity. They said the release date for the software update to fix it was sometime in November, but he sounded fairly confident it would come out sooner than that. We'll see.

anyway it has nothing to do with verizon's "network issues" that I haven't heard anything about until now.

Problem for many of us is that it has been an issue before any news of network issues and it seems to affect 3g as well. And as someone already mentioned vzw is claiming it as a known problem.

I did receive my replacement this morning but I haven't had a chance to play with it over 4g until now. So far so good. But well see as time passes. I won't get much of a chance to play with it again until tomorrow night. So reports of my experience with the replacement will be a bit slow.

I've had this problem as well, and here in San Antonio, we have really good 4G coverage, never had issues before with my Thunderbolt. Last night my Bionic couldn't connect to the internet, i figured oh well i guess only internet apps will fail to connect, two hours later the problem was still there. I ended up pulling the battery and Sim card and restarted the phone (without the sim), as soon as the phone connected, all my emails, texts and voicemails came through. I guess I was wrong for thinking the 4g loss was only affecting any internet dependent apps.

I'm speaking with absolutely no formal knowledge on this situation but I have had a similar issue. My assumption was that it was a bug in gingerbread itself as I remember having this same issue when I installed a custom gingerbread rom on my OGdroid.. It was a pain in the butt on my droid because it sometimes took forever to go in and out of airplane mode. not as big of a deal here as it takes about 2 seconds total.. though you could be missing emails etc. while data is out..
