Best remote desktop viewer/control app?

Hey guys, this is my very first post here!
Which one do you think is the best remote desktop viewer or control application out there? Both paid and free.
From a google search there are a lot of them and simply i can't decide. I can't install and test them all one by one so give me your opinions.

Completely agree. Don't understand why anyone would pay big bucks for those when you can get this one for free.

Imperio (at least the free version) is not cross-platform. You can only remotely run Windows PCs with it from your Android phone. You cannot remotely run Macs or Linux machines from your Android phone with Imperio. You can with Teamviewer! (Also lets you run Windows, Macs, or Linux machines from any other Windows, Mac, or Linux machine).

So Teamviewer's absence is a serious omission in this thread's poll, imo.

The only minus for me is that you have to type a different password everytime you want to remote control your pc. That means that somebody else has to be in front of your pc and tell you the password? Are there any other cross-platform viewers that dont need a password and stuff?

Teamviewer does allow custom/static password assignment, as well as aliasing of the remote pc identification. Check the 'host' documentation for more indepth info.

No. The way I do it is: before I leave home or the office I start up Teamviewer on my desktop machine and send* a screenshot of the ID (unique, but always the same for that machine) and the randomly generated password (never the same twice) to my phone or MBP (whichever I plan on using on the road). Then I force the password-protected screensaver (cursor in top left screen corner) and leave.
When I connect later I simply type in the desktop machine's Teamviewer ID and password, get to see the screensaver on the desktop machine on my phone's or MBP's screen, and unlock that too of course. And to finish the session I force the screensaver on the desktop machine again. Then log out (or not) of Teamviewer on my phone or MBP. Later I can reconnect again if necessary.
That's it.

Of course while the session is on-going the screen on your desktop machine is on, displaying what's going on to anybody in the room.
If you're really paranoid you could activate your webcam to see, LIVE, who's looking at your desktop machine's screen. But that too will be visible on your desktop machine's screen so that won't last longer than a few seconds before 'they' get wise and pull the plug, somehow!
Of course you don't wait for that: as soon as you've seen who it is, and made a screenshot for evidence!, you activate the password-protected screensaver immediately again to lock them out.
You're locked out of using that machine remotely too of course.

Maybe you can set up iAlertU on your desktop machine to not sound a siren or lock the machine when it's touched, but only send you a date/time stamped picture from the webcam, so that you can see who's getting their paws on your machine.

But no, I don't think there are. And you don't want it either, because that password, and the fact that it is randomly generated and never the same twice, makes the mobile connection with your desktop machine a secure, un-interceptable one. Without it you have no security. At all. Any two-bit scriptkiddie could intercept your traffic and compromise your mobile and desktop machines.

*by DropBox, SugarSync, email, SMS/MMS, Bluetooth. Or even copied over USB to your SD card if your phone is so connected. Whichever is fastest/most convenient.

Hey Chuck - hope you don't mind a meager Android crazy developer lay down some...

Just spotted this thread and as you imagine really interesting for us, thanks for starting the thread!

First thing (from our perspective), is that we still have alot of work to do to get more recognized, as we did not feature in your poll...we are starting to make good progress, gaining a loyal following + good reviews and press though...but we don't have the huge budgets as some do!

Even with our developer hat on here we would totally agree with the comments about Teamviewer, these guys make great software we like them too...what we do hope though is that you and all our other friends on this great forum will give us a try too?

Admittedly Imperio is more involved to install, but we have a rock star support team if you need any help. Once she's up and running though you will love the smoothness, speed...and the ability to transfer files from PC to mobile + get streaming sound to device +even wake the pc from sleep! You won't find a more fully featured RDP anyware that is FREE as well...

Hope you will all get to take it for a drive while its gone 'gold'!

Thanks, Imperio, but I'm not of the Windows persuasion. I appreciate your efforts, but Imperio clearly isn't a contender yet. And to anybody who is a Windows aficionado: why settle for admittedly less when you can have Teamviewer?

Obviously though you have no standing whatsoever to comment about Imperio as you have not even tried it (shame on you Chuck!), so will ignore this unhelpful remark...plus actually we said admittedly it is more work to install, but once you do it is more feature rich and slicker to use, but then if you had been able to try it you would know this...

Not sure what your motives are to try and shoot us down but we wish you well all the same and hope that others will try it out while it is still on promo ....our reviews speak for themselves..

IMPERIO ONLY WORKS ON WINDOWS (shame on you Imperio!), and as such is useless for people who (need to) use other platforms too.

In fact Window's world is shrinking fast as we speak.

you can set a static password to login, one that never changes, then u could use the rolling password, or static any time



love teamviewer, no need to remember ips or any thang, jsut login to teamview and chose what computer
