Gingerbread official release date?

....well if this isn't going the same way every thread does.....

PersonX: Is there any new information on the release of Gingerbread?

PersonY: You should root...blah....blah....blah....

I think if he wanted to root, then he would have already. I'm fairly certain the root/not-root point has been driven into the ground enough already.

last i heard was supposed to be middle of this month, which obviously hasn't happened.

the latest leaks seem to be pretty solid, so i am sure the final is "just around the corner"
just be patient, but if you are hoping GB will cure your issues, and if not you are going to root, i would just suggest doing it now as the current root methods may not work on the latest GB builds.

just a thought.

Actually everything we have seen makes it look like revolutionary will work on the the leaked RUUs so there should t be any issues with rooting after the OTA. The most recent leak we saw still has some issues like notifications for VM which we also see in roms.

Last I heard was the OTA should be this month. I don't recall a specific time of the month it should happen. The Inc was also announced to have an OTA this month and I believe it has received it

We will have it before next year...i hope. At this point I don't care anymore. Verizon seems to have discarded the TB as a has been. I will getting the Prime when it comes out.

I don't think HTC is putting much stock into the TB anymore either. It is the redheaded stepchild of their line up. Or at least it feels like it is.

I love mine, but they do tend to have problems. And random issues at that.

We Eris users back in the day dealt with the same waiting game back when 2.1 was supposed to be coming. HTC wont send it out until the last possible minute but when we get it, whatever bugs they saw in testing should be ironed out.
Personally, I'm not holding my breath. This update wasn't like looking forward to 2.1 or 2.2 where there were huge features being added. It's just so minor and I'm already so happy with my phone that its just out of my mind right now.

HTC first said end of q2. That didn't happen. Then they said this month. We're 3 weeks in and nothing. So meh....

Serious question because I don't know: what are people looking forward to that makes them even ask for the update? I always figured people asked on principle of the idea that we should have the latest sw

I would hope the behind the scenes stuff, better memory management and better battery life which should come with the OTA. There really isn't much in GB that would strike the end user as something different is going on and less once it is covered with sense 2.1

No, there is no NFC hardware in the bolt. You can get a NFC SD card or sticker (cant remember which one) that you can put on the phone and allow it to communicate with NFC, given it would be more limited than having say a nexus S with NFC built in but you could still at least use the technology.

My gf was desperately waiting for this update to come to solve her issues. Random reboots, horrible battery life (even with everything turned off), messages going to the wrong people. And finally, we couldn't wait anymore, root, flashed a stock GB ROM, and all is well besides the v/mail notifications.

I understand the not wanting to root feeling. I'm the same way on the 3V0. Call it peace of mind, call it just not wanting to do it, or whatever. You have every right to expect the manufacturer and carrier to fix these problems instead of having to fix them on your own.

Baffles me that there are so many different scenarios with this phone and the end-user experience. Mine has been fine as well as the other person I know that has this one but then you read on here all day about random reboots, severe battery issues, etc...

Verizon has sent a couple of updates since the release of the phone so I don't think it's a "forgotten" model just yet. It is still one of only a handful of 4G capable phones they have afterall.

Thanks, but I don't want to talk about rooting.

Wasn't trying to push it on you. If someone wants to have a stock phone and not deal with rooting then that is up to them. Rooting isn't for everyone.

On topic: I am sure you will get an OTA to GB, wish I could say when. Hopefully it will be this month but HTC and VZW want to make sure everything works properly and not have to worry about issues like they had with MR1 and random reboots. I would suggest checking back here daily or so, I am sure once the OTA is available this forum will explode with a few threads.

I agree with the notion that the TB has been relegated to the red headed step child... and support from Verizon will probably end once GB is released. A) it's being replaced by the Vigor and B) it's not a Droid branded phone.

My wife has the Inc2 and overall it's a great phone - dare I say better than the TB (even having less features). It's also had like 4 OTA's already - and a few of them have been just minor fixes. Something that should have happened with the TB after MR1 caused the random reboots. Since the MR2 for the TB, I believe the Inc2 has had at least 2 OTA's.

I am hoping for better battery life, fix for overheating...which seems to effect battery life in my TB and Skype support.

Really, we shouldn't have to root, and toss out our warranty, to have a working device we paid big money for. At the very least it should be supported.

Do you think its any different for other phones the minute something new from that carrier/manufacturer is released? Without root WHATEVER phone you get will be minimally supported not there long after, after all you already bought it, duh why would they want you to hold on to it forever by giving you the latest frequent timely updates. Furthermore you guys act like the GB update is the coming of the Lord, the vanilla GB update you do get will hardly be noticeable. TB is a pretty popular dev phone and the only way your going to get significant and long term updates.

I thank you for your valued input StanLaLee.

Brands become known by how well they support the products they sell. If you create a 'flagship product', I buy it from you, and then you choose not to support it thereafter....what to you think the chances are of me buying your next product? Greatly diminished!

The phone people didn't buy for a penny, but $300(in contract) and more(out of contract)!

This is true. This is where the iPhone shines. Still, I need an open device. We can have flexible but might have bugs or solid operation but inflexible.

So, seems we've heard lots of guessing. Are they going to let us have it or what?

no one knows. asking on forums isnt going to bring it any quicker ;)

best thing you can do for info is watch the news on sites like phandroid and engadget, and follow on twitter htc, verizon, and devs who repeatedly bring us leaks: teamandirc, chingy, prolly a few more that dont pop into my mind at the moment.

if you dont have to have the info the second it comes out, just watch the forum. i gaurantee you as soon as someone sees an "offical" release date somewhere, theyll post it up here :)
