Help NOOB needs some guidance

Hey everyone, as the title states i am a newbe to the android world and i have had my optimus M for a year and wanted to start personalizing it. i have read the forum for the new guys on here that states all the dictionary words and links to post to get ROMS and to OC your device and to root it but have been having trouble with alot of these i know this probably sounds ridiculous but im having trouble following the forums. so far i have rooted my phone through the Gingerbreak that i saw a tutorial on youtube about and that was easy but i cant seem to:

put a recovery
a ROM
OC

and not sure which order i do these any suggestions? or should i read the begginer forums until it sinks in?

You have the order right.

Once rooted putting a custom recovery (there are at least 2) and then a rom. I think I remember seeing something about a stock overclock kernal too.

Best thing to do is find the links with ROM in the title and decide what seems good for you, be aware that bobz's ROM requires a partitioned SD card, so maybe skip that for now in favor of reppard's or playfulgods builds of cm7.

If you read the ROM threads you should get a good idea of how to flash, even if you don't quite understand all the terms.

if you follow the instructions perfectly you can get your Recovery up and running.

and then depending on which version your phone is 2.2 is the original stock. or 2.2.1.

those are the best roms i have found for 2.2.1 version. all can also be used on 2.2 version but if you have 2.2 might i suggest http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/373468-rom-aplusrom_2-2-a.html by far my favorite rom for 2.2

thanks to both of you i think i understand a bit more now. I decided to go with sector 4's approach it seems easier for me to follow but i have another question. lol. When i download rom manger and i got to run recovery my mobile device is not in that list. do i need to pick a different route or mobile device?

Read the ENTIRE instructions on any of this stuff before you attempt it. If you are going to use RM to install CWM you must first make sure your version of RM is no later than 4.3.3.0. If you use a later version it WILL "brick" your phone. Secondly you will be using RM to install ANY CWM and then renaming a specially downloaded CWM to the same name RM downloads and swapping out the fiel in the download directory, then you reinstall the same CWM in RM and it will use the locally cached file you swapped...

Installing CWM in RM is a pain in the ass right now and the benefits of RM are not yet there(can't download roms for our phone). I would suggest installing CWM via adb shell or forking out a buck for flashimageGUI to do it the easiest way.

If you register(for free) at sdx developers forum, you can get a copy of flashimagegui for free, it's the easiest way to flash custom recovery. Once you have a rooted phone with custom recovery flashing roms is easy stuff.

ok cool im definetly considering the SDX developers site but those people seem like they would run circles around me in technical lingo alone. lol. I went through the All In One Recovery Thread and i will be honest i got as far as linking my phonew to the computer and downloading the anreboot from the market other than that i am somewhat lost. is there a good video that can show me what to do click by click out there?
