Hey all, seeing if anyone can help or has experienced this problem. I was on a call and hung up and when I did my phone started installing something (not sure what it was, it said something like unpacking 1/2 or something like that) anyway, the first bar on the first part was about halfway full and the phone battery went dead, it did say make sure the battery is full on that screen. So I plug it in and start it back up and for the last two hours it is stuck on a black screen with the words "Preparing to update..." but wont do anything. I tried hard resetting it (volume up, the bottom left button and power) and pulled the battery out, but when i power it back up, it still says preparing to update. Any suggestions?

Wait it was running 2.2 BEFORE this happened???? What the hell was it updating to then?

Im not sure, I got the phone about three weeks ago and it originally was 2.1 but I downloaded the the 2.2 the same day and it was fine. I did some googling and came across someone saying they had an issue where it said said "FIRMWIRE UPDATE STEP 1/2 UNPACKING THEN A BAR THEN BELOW THAT IT SAYS UPDATE FAILED"

Now I didnt get a good look at it, the phone died almost immediately after I hung up on the call, but that might be what it said, cant remember the firmware prtion, but do remember seeing the unpacking 1/2 and the make sure the battery is full or plugged in

I've seen this before! A phone I already upgraded to 2.2 via Metro did this EXACT thing! However, after it 'failed', it began working properly, but that's because it had power to do whatever it was doing.

I think you may have to flash the 2.2 update to it. Other than that, take it back to Metro and explain what it tried to do. I've not contacted Metro about it since the phone is still working but I was very surprised, *And frightened out of my skull* when I saw it doing that in a place that has no Wifi and not being connected to a power source, running 80 power.
