X2 Getting Ice Cream Sandwiched?

I doubt it will ever see an update to ICS. In fact, I am so pessimistic on the X2's future that I doubt it'll ever see an update to 2.3.4 or the "new" 3D Blur that the Droid 3 and Bionic have. This is really the red-headed stepchild of VZW and Motor's current lineups.

The 2.3.3 update on the X2 still leaves a LOT to be desired, even though its hardware is still very capable.

I respectfully disagree. The X2, whether we all rate it high or not, is a highly rated Verizon phone by Consumer Reports. Until Verizon can offer 4G to every locality, the X2 probably is the flagship 3G phone in the Verizon arsenal. If you can't take advantage of 4G, it is a bargain compared to what the Bionic costs. It has the same dual core processor, same screen (whether you like it or not) and runs nearly as fast if you compare quadrant scores. I love my X2, including its screen. I am not in hurry to get a Bionic even though I have 4G where I live. I am not willing to give up great battery life for 4G. My home WiFi is half the speed of the 4G, but still good enough for me.

I expect that at least we'll see the 2.3.4 update for the X2. There are too many areas that won't be seeing 4G for another 6 months. In that time, if it comes out, we may even see Icecream sandwich for the X2.

Im pretty much done getting all excited for the next great OS hype. Pretty much every time it[s more hyped than anything.. In some ways I preferred Froyo on the X and x2 honestly. So the ICS hype isn't riding high on my radar. BTW, I agree the X2 as is is a darn good phone overall. I loved my X, but the DX2 is nicer. I will not be getting 4g in my area (montana) til who knows when, so that is not a big part of my decision on which phone I own. BTW, the screen on my X2 is brighter and crisper than the pentile on the Bionic or the pentile they are using in the newer X2's I see in stores. They changed something on the new screens making them dimmer, more washed out and having a worse "pentile effect" than mine has. I wouldn't trade my DX2 with it's current screen for my buddies Bionic. He agreed that mine was brighter/nicer than his display. Disappointing that the flagship Bionic has that display.

I found my DX with FroYo to be the most useable in my Android history. My DX2 is crap in so many ways. I have been looking for a trade lately from my DX2 back to a clean cherry DX. The issues with the Dock alone are enough to make me want to pitch this thing out the nearest window. I love the form factor but every day I feel I'm settling for less than my DX gave me. Part of me hopes Apple blows me away with the next gen iPhone and I can get off this roller coaster. The house is haunted and the ride gets rough ;-)

I DOUBT we ever see ICS but I hope at least one more bug fix patch.

Sorry you are having so many problems. I do believe that is the first "thumbs down" I've gotten on a post I made though. It sounds to me like you might just have a lemon DX2. I've had 4 different DX's (still have one) and I can say the DX2 is a better phone overall, but not by a lot. I will also say that I preferred Froyo over GB on my DX also. Just don't see anything that much truly "better" about it and in some ways it cause new bugs, which is always the case with a new OS. I do believe that every phone has some inherent problems/bugs/etc and this will always be part of the process getting newest/latstes/greatest phone/OS/etc.

I totally agree with you. I got the Bionic and it was at least 2 steps back from the X2. The voice radio and antenna are decidedly inferior to the X2's, with reception being weaker and dropped calls being higher. The 4G/LTE radio has up clutching and down clutching issues at times and has a tendency at those times to kick you out of data. However tech support assured me an update would be out later in the year for the data radio. Enough said....
BTW I returned the Bionic after 12 days.

Nice article, but it's wrong. The X2 does NOT have an OMAP processor like it's newer cousins which means it's Tegra chipset will likely have to wait for ICS.

I like the X2 OK, but I doubt I'll keep it for the full 2 year agreement given the new tech coming along. Aside from the obvious upgrades with the X2, the OG Droid was a much better piece of hardware.

At this point I never look at a phone thinking I will have it for two years anyway. I used my Dinc for about 5 months before buying the DX off contract. Had the DX for about 10 months before I bought my DX2. I would not be surprised to be using a different phone by January. I know not everyone can or wants to have the latest/greatest as often, but that is my expectation upon buying a phone now. Right now the DX2 is fine for my needs. Not perfect, it has it's problems, but overall I am pretty happy. ICS means little to me for these reasons where the DX2 is concerned.

I myself am happy with my DX2. I have not had any real deal breaking issues with it like some people mention. It has performed quite well, even compared to the long overdue Bionic. In fact, the Bionic has issues of its own. I have heard that you get a black screen of death on more than one occassion. Let's not discuss the battery life or radio strength. Anyway, I agree with one of the previous people with that, I will keep it until the Prime comes out, because the Bionic is far too overpriced for a phone virtually the same as mine, with the exception of the battery draining 4G LTE.

I'm happy with my X2 as well. Some minor issues (getting REALLY warm when using navigation), but I hear that is ironed out in the new update. I'm rooted, so likely I'll update a rooted version of the update. That said, my brother is getting this phone, as I will be going to the Prime when it releases. It will feel weird not to use a Moto device (started out on Android with an OG D1).

Two questions;
1. Where do you work?
2. Are they/you hiring?

Missed your reply/questions, but here's my answers:

1) I am a business owner (self employed)
2) Currently not hiring (sorry)
3) I work my store(s) myself and am not wealthy, however I do decently and don't spend money on many smaller everyday things like many do so I often have funds available for MY choice of hobbies or toys to spend them on (like a newer phone, tablet, laptop, etc).

:)

That is awesome :) Congratulations on your success in this day and age. I was only joking about where you work and if you're hiring lol.
