"Best" Android Tablet by Price Range

Hi Everyone

I am new to the forum and I am looking for information on Android Tablets. Is there a thread where people list and explain the best Android tablets by price range and explain why?

Price ranges could be $0-$100, $101-$200, $201-$300, $301-$400, $401-$500, $501+

Then add why the particular tablet is the best, such as "best speed" or "responsive screen" or "stable firmware" etc

Other important things to note is screen size, Android Market or not, etc

If such a thread exists, I would appreciate someone pointing me to it. If such a thread does not exist, lets create one

Problem with threads like this is that "best" is highly subjective. What tablet is best for one person, may totally not be for another because we all do different tasks with our devices. What you should do is figure out how much you can afford to spend, then find out what you need, and want to do with it, and go from there with the research.

That makes sense, are there "must have" features/hardware in a good Android Tablet?

I definitely want the Android Market and Flash. I guess what I am wondering about is sweet spots in hardware. Such as is there a situation where you can spend a little more money and get much more performance, etc.

EDIT: An example is say with cars... the Nissan GT-R is one of the fastest cars in the world yet it has a price of under $100k, easily faster than many cars much more expensive.

EDIT2: Also is there a convenient chart or graph or anything showing what Android tablets are comparable in performance. This way people can see price to performance type thing.

I'm gonna let others chime in to help (I don't have a lot of knowledge on the tablets out currently, there's a ton of them), but in my experience I was considering 2 tablets when I ended up buying mine. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer. They both had comparable specs, including the same screen size, processor and Android version (3.1 when I bought mine).

The differences it came down to for me was size (Tab 10.1 was thinner and lighter... which for me was big in a tablet), overall design appearance (I liked the Tab better), and I tended to prefer the Samsung screen personally.

The main thing that made it a tough decision was the price point between the 2, the ASUS was coming in at $399 for the 16GB wifi model, and the Tab came in at $499 for the 16GB wifi model. So it was a close decision... and I've found that it comes down to personal preferences a lot when making the ultimate decision. Hands on time is a must in my opinion.

My personal preference is to have a keyboard. I tend to do a lot of typing as I participate on various internet forums and social networks via my tablet. I like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer and keyboard dock the most for this reason. At the time, I was deciding between the Eee Pad and the Apple iPad 2. The deciding factor was that the Eee Pad's keyboard dock just integrates so nicely with the tablet. Some other value added features is the extra battery pack, and the fact that the keyboard dock is a better stand than any third party keyboards for the iPad. The keyboard dock allows you to mount the tablet at almost any angle compared to third party keyboards that seem to only allowed a fixed mounting angle.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was not available when I was buying my tablet. Looking at it now, I feel that its keyboard dock was inferior to the Eee Pad's. I would have chosen the Eee Pad over the Galaxy Tab for this reason.

I'm pretty sure the Nook color can be rooted and Cyanogenmod 7 installed on it (CM7 is based on Android 2.3). That could be a good budget spot for sure. My advice is to look into the process for rooting and installing CM7 and see how easy it is to do.

I am a complete notice in the Android world so pardon the questions, but what exactly is CM7? Is it some kind of OS or firmware?

It's a custom ROM that is based on Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
