Help Why don't .avi files play well on the SGS2?

I've read that everyone is using the stock or Dice video player and not needing to convert videos to play on the SGS2.

The .avi files I've transfered from my Mac to my SGS2, which looked perfect on the Mac, have also sorts of bit distortion effects and are unwatchable on the SGS2.

Any tips would be appreciated!

AVI is just the container file not the actual video codec/format being used, I've had no problems playing any avi files I've downloaded or copied over so you need to provide more details about these video files.

It would have to be pretty obscure to not play on the SGS2.

It depends I guess on the specs of the computer you use. I done a batch conversion last week that totalled close to an hour and probably took half that, maybe, to complete. But this was on a single core Sempron powered lappy.

And I think the quality is great. I use a free converter that does the business.... I'll let you know which one when I'm at the lappy.

that happened to me last night (which surprised me considering that previous .avi files played just fine on the default vid player) so i removed the files and re-transferred them and they played fine. i played the vids with doubletwist and default vid player and both were fine. maybe you can try remove and retransferring them.
