Root rooting or changing roms affect call signal?

Does rooting and/or changing ROM's affect your call signal and/or 3g signal? I feel like after rooting and changing to mik2.5, my call and 3g strength have weakened.

Is the call and 3g strength related to kernals? When I changed ROM's, did a different kernal come that might have affected my signal strength?

I've updated PRL and profile, but no difference.

thanks

I think it has to do with the way stock sense handles displaying signal.
Some sense roms have it modified to be more accurate. For example, on stock sense, the display doesn't measure 3g signal. It'll display an arrow next to the 3g logo if you have 3g in use. Otherwise you are seeing the 2g signal (it explains it a bit in the phones manual).

AOSP (and some sense) roms display 'true' 3g signal.

As for different roms impacting the power to the radio, that could alter the signal. But that would be more regarding kernels I think.

It seems like we get a question about this topic popping up every now and again, I think the general consensus was that the answer is no*

* only if you have a kernel or something altering the power to the radio.

Hope that answers your question.

I did notice that after i flashed the new ROM and kernel combo after root, my signal got a little wacky. For the first time I can remember I saw the 1X, logo displayed alot more often than before, but that can just be the area I am In at that time. I did install the 3G turboboost and my internet d/l speed regardless of how many bars I have is a lot faster, almost WiFi fast. As far as my phone signal haven't noticed any difference, but I am in ny and the only time service sux, IS in the subway or basements where I work, but other than that I would say try out the 3g turbo boost or there is a thread on how to improve 3g speeds...might help....also since having the sense 3.0 the signal is little more accurate I guess, I have not had 5 or 6 bars since installing the turboboost but my speeds are crazy fast, I thought that was funny....can't quite remember if that was the case before i started tweaking the phone....I can say that i did try to help out my 3G speeds through that the directions on that thread and it did more worse than good, speeds actually got slower,"if It aint broke don't try to fix it", but i guess im like everyone else and want as much customization as possible and am always Curious to see if i can improve my current phone situation.....SORRY FOR THE LOOOONG REPLY, I'M ALL JACKED UP ON MOUNTAIN DEW!!!:eek:

The only ROM I know of that would affect your radios is the all in one update sprint lovers ROM. That one you flash from hboot with a PC36IMG, so unless you flashed that Rom, your radios haven't actually been altered. In fact your signal should have gotten better with new radios.
I read a while back some of the newer prl updates have a throttle attached to them for 3G speeds. I can't remember all the details for the life of me.

Can u install that 3g turbo boost on any Rom?

i think that the only way to unistall the script is to nandorid restore or wipe everything and reflash the rom. another way to do it is to use root explorer or es file manager and go to system/etc/init.d and find the script for the 3g turbo charger. not sure what is is called but you can just rename it or delete it.

If you already have a version of v6 running on a rom, can you stop it, or cancel it, or whatever? should I just run a new one over old one, or start fresh with new flash?

It is kind of confusing what runs with what. Can you run the latet v6 with the 3g turboboost, or not?

Edit: this kind of answers my first question,
Hitting kill only stops the user interface. You are correct in saying the script doesn't run on its own as it is not an active process.

Shell scripts are executed and do their thing, when done they end.

Edit: well, hell, I am trying it, nandroids are my friend. I think I chose balanced, or ledded, under 512, on the V6 and am using option 3, fastest, on 3g.

can't tell any difference right now from first, and 3g down ain't great. Not a good time to check it though, really, prob the peak usage time. I'll give it a while and see. Maybe my phone will grow horns or something...

All of this talk about better 3g/call signal had me wondering...

Has anyone else here heard that us with the evos and people with the evo shifts are being given a "get out of your contract free" clause? It has something to do with them charging like $2 more per month (or something like that) if you ask about it, they will give you the option to leave.

Also I read somewhere online that part of the big "oct sprint iphone" announcement is that sprint is going to be drastically improoving 3g data speeds (upwards of 9-10mb's down).

Anyone else heard about all of this?

quick question about that ram optimization. Its basically for multitasking correct?? doesnt V6 supercharger have an option for that also, would it be the same as this script??

they are pretty much very similar but with te v6 you have more options to tweek the script if you want. the other one you just run it and you are good to go.
