HTC Thunderbolt Otter Box

Hey all, Ive had my thunderbolt for a few months now and I just purchased a Hi-Cap Battery because the stock battery sucks pretty bad only 5 hours of usage out of it if im lucky. So I was wondering If I could modify my otter box to accommodate the Hi-Cap Battery. I would imagine I could just dremel out of the back panel, but anyone had any lucky modding an Otter Box! Any info would be helpful, or even a link to a thread!!!!

As bulky as the phone is as it is currently packaged, I can't imagine what it would be like with an extended battery AND wrapped up in an Otterbox. Just get you one of those vault-grade suitcases with wheels....

I frequently drop my phone hence why I have the otter box, not to mention I really hate paying insurance claims to get a new phone when I break something. And I really dont wanna root my phone to get the best battery life possible!!! I love my thunderbolt, but dont think I really wanna keep recharging my battery every 6-8 hours If I use it heavily!!

Yeah, the Battery life is a big issue for me too. I attacked it from a different angle. I bought a portable Duracell battery charger but carrying that extra piece of equipment around is a PITA as well. I'm almost tempted to get into something that's less advanced if it means I can go a few days in between charges. I think I charge my TB about 2-3 times per day. It's getting a little ridiculous.

If that is the case you may want to look into the sedio cases with the extended battery cover. I haven't looked into cases all that much but I do think if you cut the otterbox it will lose some of its protective quality. I know you paid a good amount for the otterbox and wouldn't try to talk you out of modding it if you are sure it will still be as protective.

I got the otter box for $20 bucks when I bought the phone, used the wifes upgrade, and Ive been talking to the engineer at my machine shop and hes thinking the main reinforcing part of the otter box is the side plastic rails and the back being machined out would probably weaken the case a little, but since I doubt ill drop the phone from 50 feet, then perhaps. Ive heard the sedio cases are nice. My buddy whose a cop has a CNC Machined Aluminum case for his iphone and loves it. I think that same company had plans on making them on a larger scale and lost interest!!!
But youre right it might weaken it enough that it be unusable. But I guess ill just have to experiment and be prepared for the backlash!

Yeah I don't have the extended battery but I think it is very flush with the top of the phone so you may have to cut the top of the case entirely off to allow the battery to come out. Good deal on the otterbox BTW

Yeah the OTTER Box, if i didnt get a good deal I probably wouldnt have gotten it! But I just checked out the Seidio cases and they look pretty bad ass!!! I think I want one!

I have the Active by Seidio and am happy with it. I got the holster also. My sister has a TBolt and is jealous, she has the Surface and isn't thoroughly impressed with it. They DO make an Active that accommodates an extended battery and it DOES work with the HTC extended battery as well as Seidio's own extended battery.

Ill probably buy the active, see if I can pull some overtime soon to get one. $59.99 for a phone case is definitely worth it to protect my $500 TBolt!
