Default txt msgs to SD card

I'm not sure, but you can use "SMS backup". This will save all your text to your email acct. in a SMS folder. You can restore your text as well.

Thanks for responding Itsallgood. I know I can back up msgs to the SD Card. The problem I am running into is that people will send me messages with pictures and video that will fill up my internal phone's memory. At that point I would have to run some sort of backup to then back the msgs up to the SD card and delete them from the SMS program, like Handcent, so that I could free up some internal memory inorder to receive more messages. Vicious cycle.

What would be nice is to be able to have a program like Handcent save all my new txt msgs directly to the SD card so that I would not have to go through this extra step of backing up.

Ok, maybe I didn't give a clear answer. With SMS backup, it automatically saves your text messages and attachments, to a SMS folder in your e-mail. (In my case, my gmail acct.) You don't have to do anything after you set up everything.) I just checked my gmail acct. in the SMS folder and all my text messages with the attachments were there. (I'm not sure about video's, since I don't have any as attacments.)

I think he wants to be able to view all messages still within the conversation. If you back up to the SMS backup+, sure they are all backed up, but when your phone memory is full, you'd have to some of them, and they wont appear in the conversation view anymore, even if they are backed up on email.

On a Symbian phone for example, you could set messages to save to SD card. So even if the conversation contents reach 2gb of data worth of videos or pictures, as long as there is space in your SD card, you dont have to delete anything.

Thanks Chan for clarifying what I am looking for. Just to be even more specific, I have an HTC Incredible running FROYO with Handcent set as my SMS program.

I see. With SMS backup it makes a copy of the text, while your text messages are still within the text messaging app conversation. When You delete them from "Handcent", for whatever reason, they are stored in the gmail SMS folder. You can restore the text to Handcent anytime you like, by using the restore feature in SMS Backup.
