Root Bricked my phone by formatting fat in CWM, heeelp!

Yup... you read that right, I may have royally screwed the pooch but I'm hoping that someone can help me. I was preparing to install CM7 earlier and while in clockworkmod I accidently formatted /fat along with /system, /data, and /cache. Oooops... now the phone simply goes into a constant vibrate whenever you try to power it on - whether you try for recovery or a regular boot. Going for the boot loader results in nothing - the screen doesn't even light up.

I'm thinking that bootloader mode IS actually working (even though the screen isn't lighting) because when I plug the phone into a PC I see the 'MOBILE' drive. But there is NOTHING on it. I've tried re-adding the stock recovery.img but the phone still won't boot into recovery so I guess I'm missing some essential .img file.

Does anyone have a backup of the fileset that shows up on the 'MOBILE' drive when you plug the Triumph into a PC while it's in bootloader mode (power - voldown) - I'm thinking this would be extremely helpful in unbricking my phone.

I messed up with cwm before i formatted the data, cache and system without installing the stock nandroid backup. To fix I took sdcard from my phone and bought a micro sd card reader plugged it to my computer and installed the backup and I was able to load the stock nandroid from cwm. If you could go into recovery (pressing power plus volume up and down) that might do the trick. You should first try to take the battery off the phone like a soft reset and see if it changes anything.

Well I think I'm beyond that point - the phone won't even boot into recovery. I think it's because I formatted the /fat partition and that's where everything having to do with how the phone boots into recovery is stored - we're talking hardcore stuff here. What I need is a copy of the files that are on the fat partition (basically what shows up if you plug the phone into a PC while it's in bootloader mode) - these files specifically:

amss.mbn
emmcboot.mbn
recovery.img
temp_ftm.txt
boot.img
ftm.img
splash.img

These only show up when you put the handset in bootloader mode (volume down + power) and plug it into a PC.

Well shoot, that didn't work... but I really appreciate your trying to help. There must be some hidden files or some kind of boot sector in the FAT partition that got wiped when I formatted /fat.

Let this be a lesson to others - never never NEVER format /fat under the mounts and storage menu in CWM recovery! Damn Damn double DAMN!

I just did the exact same thing, thinking I should wipe everything listed to ensure as clean an install as possible.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?

What version of cwm are you using? I am using Isaac's orange v4.0.1.5 and you can't format a fat partition. And I'm pretty sure in his green v4.0.1.4 you can't either. Ill hook mine up on my Linux box and see if there is any more files hidden in there!

I believe I used the file linked to in the youtube guide posted by minus5252. He credits TJStyle69 for the the CWM img. (I may be wrong; I've since been frantically trying any other recovery I can get my hands on, to no avail.)

I was using Issac's (the one with orange text) and format /fat was the first option in the list of 'format' options under mounts and storage. /fat appears to be the hidden partition that houses all of the files referenced above, and apparently some hidden files or sectors as well. After formatting that partition it's like the phone is completely clueless about how to function - trying to power it on results in constant vibration until you pull the battery and you get the same thing if you try to boot recovery. From what I can figure out the phone is actually stuck in a sort of blind bootloader mode - without the screen being lit.

I'm wondering if someone could use a disk imaging program in Windows to make a .iso or .img file of the hidden 'MOBILE' drive that shows up in bootloader mode. Maybe that will get us the hidden data in the FAT partition the phone is missing to boot to anything.

The only other option I can think of would be to do a whole firmware flash on the phone (an .nb0 image), and Motorola hasn't made a whole image available as far as I know.

Yeah I feel like such a dope... coming from the Optimus I am so used to just formatting everything one at a time. It was so funny too because right after I did it I was like 'Oooh shoot I wonder if I was supposed to do that?'. Doh.

That is wierd cause every recovery I have used(isaac's green v4.0.1.4, isaacs new orange one v4.0.1.5 off his cm7 thread, and the orignal orange one from a while ago) and I believe everyone I have never had an option to format /fat. Can you provide me with the recovery you all used. And I can assure you that I will try all I can to get it fixed!

Hey I just realized did you place all those files inside a folder called image inside of the mobile partition that gets mounted? Cause that's the way its supposed to be set up. Also I just tried both versions of isaacs cwm recovery and neither of them have the format /fat.

To be clear - I wasn't putting them in a folder called 'image' - and I should have known because atrickpay even had the archive setup that way. I'm such a dope!

Looks like some of the older CWM ports had /fat in the mounts and storage menu - for example the 4.0.0.9 that was in Atrick's file set above definitely has it. Guess that's what I was using too heh.

Updated to issac's latest 4.0.0.15 and it's not there anymore... whew that's definitely a good thing.

I no longer have the LG logo at boot - just a blank screen. And in bootloader mode I just get a blank screen instead of the text that would scroll down the screen. But ah well everything still works and I'm relieved!

Hmm that is wierd an LG logo? Well I have the stock motorola(red motorola symbol) splash image. You could just copy it over into the mobile partition mounted in bootloader mode. That is wierd that the bootloader mode isnt scrolling the text anymore!

Okay so i did the same thing deleting everything including the /fat folder thinking that i was going to have a complete fresh install on a rom and I have not been able to get anything doing the power/volume down the only pop up i get on my computer is mobledrive:j? any suggestions please???

Also if i pull the battery and plug it in i get a red light and it did vibrate continuously but no longer does so..
