Help Converting movies with the built in software?

So does anyone convert movies with the built in software? Are the results decent.


What I mean is when dragging and dropping some .mkv files from Win7 to the SGT I got a warning that I should convert - but I havent had a good run of testing yet. This is not using any specially installed software other than the driver. No Verizon Media Manager nonsense. (I dont think).


I did however notice lowwwww fps on the ones I did not convert and some where very small in dimensions (320x240) when they should have been larger. Thechoppy fps was especially noticeable using the HDMI adapter on a 1080i TV


So I'm just curious what results people have been seeing. I'm wondering if I should fire up handbrake and convert a special set for the tab.

I tried using the software to put movies onto my tab... I did not convert them, but used the software to put them onto my tab instead of just drag-drop. The movies were choppy, or too small, just like you stated... I could not get the movies to play right. It is weird because on my original galaxy tab 7, the same movies played fine... I know that others have had the same issues with the movies... Since you posted, have you tried converting any of the movies using that software? If so, did they play better? One of my top reasons on wanting to get this tab was to be able to play movies on it. Really disappointed that they won't play right. Netflix on the other hand streamed perfectly... Hard to believe that streaming a movie works better than playing one saved right on the tablet.

PS, I also tried using multiple different players, and all had the same results.

Only had time to test a couple and they came out very small -- not good unfortunately

Yes you should convert all your Video with a Good Converting Software many out there, search Google take your pic. Remember rule of thumb garbage in garbage out. I always Rip DVD's to 720x480 2000kb and if it's a concert audio to 320 other wisw 192 bite rate is fine. For a movie always leave the aspect ratio to what the program wants (original) Transfer movie and watch it in all it's glory. Up converting smaller files to fill the screen will give you a bad experience. Making it small the the DVD original will not fill the screen. Oh by the way the best player out there is MOBO for android tablets.

I just dragged and dropped my movies onto my tab and ignored the convert message all of them play perfectly and at decent frame rates all converting them does is possibly makes them into a smaller file and tbh I cba waisting the time. If your movies are playing small it's likely that they are small to start with I might of just been lucky but every video I've dropped onto my tab has just worked.

It's entirely possible my movies were small to begin with but a bit of up-scaling would have been nice Maybe that's just the player though.

Any of the rest of you use a Mac? I have a MacBook Pro, and when I transferred my movies to my Galaxy Tab 10.1, they movies don't play right. I've tried .avi, .mp4, m4v (although I don't quite know the difference between mp4 and m4v) and pretty much any version that I could convert it to lol...

They play fine on my computer, on my iPhone 4, but not on my tab... Although when I had the original Galaxy Tab 7" the same movies played just fine on there!! This is a better tab with better specs yet it won't play the same movies that my old 7" tab could. At the time I had a Windows 7 computer which I used to transfer the movies onto the Tab, so I don't know if that has something to do with it? (Google + Apple = No Bueno?)

About my previous post, after looking around some more on here and on XDA-Developers, it isn't so much a problem with the video type... It's Samsung Kies that has the issue w/ Mac lol... Sooo if you have a Mac and are trying to use Kies to transfer videos onto you Tab, that is the problem... Attached one link to one of the places I found info about this.
