So.. what's wrong with this phone?

Are there any known chronic problems that the EPIC Touch has as yet? GPS working fine? Popular incompatible apps?

I intend to get this phone as soon as I secure another job back (hopefully soon) and was just wondering what to look out for. I see a few complaints here of course but they seem like isolated cases, I'm more interested in whether it has any general deficiencies as the original Galaxy S had.

Every problem from the original SGS is gone in this. GPS locks quicker than most phones. There is no lag whatsoever. Screen is top of the line. All of my apps work as they should (except for the Social Hub, but I could care less and Samsung will have it fixed soon). For the first time, I have no problems on my phone. There is no comparison to the original SGS.

I 2nd the opinions here so far. Absolutely no comparison to the original SGS. This phone IMO by far is the best I've ever used. GPS is great, speed is great, the camera (both still and video) is unbelievable.

Popular incompatible apps - so far major ones that I've seen complained about is HBO GO and MAX GO - but you can still access via web browser/flash as a workaround.

By the way - good luck in landing another job.

Traded in my Htc Evo for the Epic Touch and I have been extremely happy and satisfied so far! The build
Quality on my Evo was nasty! The phone was leaking light like an old faucet leaks water!! My Epic Touch
Does have a little light leaking from the bottom left hand corner but I can live with it. Other than that
The phone is fantastic. Very quick and snappy and the screen color is amazing!

What about the heat issues being posted on XDA ? Anyone here have that issue....?

Just sold my 3D. Now, debating between the Photon and this one..

The only time the phone got noticeably warm was when I charged it from 12% to full and then proceeded to use it nonstop. Other than that, it never happened again. I know Moto phones have better reception, but between this and the Photon, the Epic 4G Touch just can't be beat in my eyes.

Download the free one in the market...it works just the same.
Actually, I like the market app better since I wasted time toggling from low, med, hi with the Sense flashlight. If it touched one too many times, I had to do the cycle again. Off or hi is the way I prefer it.

There isn't anything my Evo did that the ET doesn't do a gajillion times better. While I prefer the Sense way of touching the screen to answer the phone rather than sliding to answer, overall I prefer the TW dialer. I never used the Sense widgets so I don't miss them at all.

The only two things I absolutely needed were a better camera and better battery. Everything else was just gravy. The ET has both and all the gravy I can handle.

By the way, N64oid runs absolutely flawlessly on the ET. Sure, the controls are an unusable nightmare, but it blows my PC based emulator away. If I could just get a bluetooth N64 controller adapter and hook up the HDMI mirroring, I could have the next best thing to a real live N64 (which is currently collecting dust).

Okay thanks for the replies. Great to know it isn't having any hiccups and they got this one right from the start. I also love my EVO 4G still for what it's worth, huge fan of Sense even if it isn't that optimized, not a big fan of touchwiz either except the awesome dailer. I think I will put that Android Revolution thing on if/when I get it cause Sense matters to me that much.. this beast of a phone shouldnt have any problems handling it.
Also I love the weight and feel of the EVO 4G.. some may call it heavy but it gives me a feeling of security if you ask me, I never needed to keep it in a case and I never once dropped the phone. I felt the Epic Touch and it is a featherweight in comparison, I may actually have to get a case for this so that I know it's there .

I know exactly what you mean. I've had the original Evo since launch day, and the size and weight feels right in proportion to other phones I've owned. The Touch just feels sooooo light in comparison. I'm not saying it's cheap or a bad design or even a flaw. I know it's an excellent piece, but it feels like one of those dummy phones on display at BB.

I have had no issues with the phone. Flawless, fast, and like a mini plasma tv. I came from Evo3d and don't regret it Someone said that the phone is light and their afraid of dropping it. I agree. I'm waiting on a case from amazon hopefully to add some girth.

The speed and size of the screen are awesome and the battery life is amazing.

Touchwiz is boring but you can get other launcher programs free. No biggie.

I'm coming from a Samsung Moment (2.2), but I've also used the Nexus S a bunch for work. Overall I think the phone is great and I'm happy with my purchase, assuming there is a fix for my first con.

Cons:
- Games crash randomly. I think it may be a bug related to how sound effects are played. The games I've tried are Tetris, Doodle Fit, and Plants vs. Zombies. For a while PvZ seemed ok when I turned off all sounds, but I had it crash twice in a row last night.
If anyone is able to play the games I've mentioned with no crashing I'd be interested to hear it, since it may mean that I have defective hardware, but I've seen similar crash reports about the Galaxy SII.

- Keyboard is junk in my opinion. Fortunately there's a free 2.3 keyboard on the market that works well.

- Touchwiz is meh. It's not terrible, but I much prefer stock Android.

- It notifies me to unplug the charger when it is full charged. There is no way to turn this notification off. Why?

- The vibrate notification is always the same (long vibration), so I can't tell if a notification is a phone call until I wait for the 2nd vibration or I look at the screen. On my Moment, phone calls had a long vibration while everything else had shorter vibrations, and I liked that. I don't see any way to customize these.

- A little too big for me I think. I have normal sized hands for a 5'11" guy, and it can be difficult to reach parts of the screen with my thumb when I'm using the phone with one hand.

Pros:
- Screen is beautiful. I don't find myself caring about the resolution.

- Really fast and responsive.

- Even 3g data feels faster, due to the phone being fast overall (compared to my old Samsung Moment, so might not be saying much). No data lockups or anything so far. The only time I even bother turning on 4g is for app updates.

- Battery life seems pretty good.

- GPS is really quick, haven't had a problem yet.

- The 'Wi-Fi / BT / GPS / Vibration / 4g" controls in the toolbar are really useful (not sure if this is specific to this device, I haven't seen it before).

- I like how thin and light the phone is. You barely know it's there when it's in your pocket.

OH and my Sprint store told me the upgrades for premier runs out on Oct. 2, so get it before then if you want to upgrade this time next year! After that, you're screwed.

I've had 2 reps in person tell me that there are no more 1 year upgrades. You have this one to use before 12/31/11, and after that it's just 20 months. Don't know who to believe...

It's 12/31/12 FYI, as long as you would have an upgrade available next year. After that date, everyone switches to the new 20 month plan. Oh, and if you've been sitting on an upgrade for a while (20+ months since your last one), you're effectively already on it.

They told me the same thing. Got my ET4G on a standard upgrade and I can get my last yearly upgrade next year at this time. The annual upgrades are gone for good at the end of 2012. Then it goes to 20 months even for Premiere Gold members

I'm curious to hear what you miss from the Evo? I am also coming from the Evo and miss having the flashlight option. Silly I know but it has come in handy several times.

I am curious too. I loved, loved, loved my EVO 4G too...Before her I had a Vibrant (Samsung SGS Varient) & i loved that phone as well, EVEN with its issues, (what a high maintanence phone she was...lol ....but didn't miss it much when i went from that to the EVO 4G, (i too loved that bright killer flashlight among everything else the EVO 4G had (cept her weight issues, the lil porker...lol : ) but this SGS II has improved every single thing the Vibrant had times 100 hence making BOTH the EVO4G and the Vibrant a distant memory....

The ONLY complaint i have is the version of Swype that is included. It refuses to space after certain word, constantly changes to "Espanol" and all around is cumbersome to use, the ONLY version of Swype i ever used that gave me grief. Hope it gets fixed with an update, for now its strictly gingerbread keyboard for me.

This phone is sooooo great, i will NOT even be rooting it : )
