How long will you keep your bolt?

Just got done proclaiming my undying love for my bolt in another thread and i thought i'd jump in here and slather it with a little more.

Up until my bolt, i've been a new phone every few months kinda guy. There was just always something that bugged me about whatever phone i had. My lg dare was a limited feature phone. Then the bb storm, wow. You can guess what was wrong with that. My iphone 3gs on att had service that made me fear for my life if i ever needed to dial 911. My droid eris was a slow small-screened little thing. My droid 2 was laggy with blur and i never used the keyboard and wanted a nice big screen for porn viewin-- i mean....screw it. Yeah. Porn viewing

Now i'm at this point i've never been at before where i'm content with what i've got. My phone is fast, takes great pics and still has a beautiful screen, even compared to these new high res monsters. I look at these new phones coming out and out of pure love for new flashy things, i check out the video reviews and pics and all that and as amazing as phones are getting, it doesn't make my phone feel any less awesome. Dual core is so new that it's almost pointless to have but for the idea of feeling "future proofed" and higher res screens are indeed the bees knees but it's not like i'm counting pixels on my phone right now. It looks damn good.

I guess what i'm saying is that this is a unique position to be in. For me anyway. Usually at some point i got sick of a phone or made up some justification to buy a new one out of some desperation/need. Defects, issues, things that weren't built into it, whatever. And now i'm just...so problem free that looking at other phones is merely for fun instead of research into whatever my next one might be.

I got my bolt in april so i'll probably give it until next april before getting a new one. And just make it a yearly thing. Every april get the new best top o' the line hardware and just deal with it. A year for me is HUGE.

So you're not getting the quad-core phone that's coming out next month?

I'm not sure how long I'll keep mine...

Like most of the people here, I like the new, flashy, most recent technology. But there hasn't been anything that has really made me want to jump ship. The Bolt isn't without it's quirks, more quirks than any phone I've ever owned, but somehow it makes up for that stuff in other areas. LTE still blows me away. The speed is incredible, a real jump into the future of mobile computing. I like the Bolt's screen size, kickstand, and the processor is plenty fast. Plus we've been through a lot with each other, me wanting to toss it through a window, then wanting to hail it as the king of phones, it shuting itself off, rebooting, sometimes getting laggy, sometimes myseriously eating battery like a lumberjack eats pancakes.

The best analogy is that it is like a super hot woman that is high maintenance, but loves passionate sex. It's hard to walk away from that, and other women just don't seem to have that spark that they used to have.

I am with you. i am a tech junkie, started with the original droid which i bough simply because the newer droid phones out (bought after droid X released) couldn't be rooted.
soo after i sold it for a droid X. kept that for about 6 months, sold it, for my TB. since then, nothing has come out on verizon that really grabbs me. i will NEVER buy another Moto phone unless it is Blur Free and unlocked.
seems the "prime" or the vigor would be a nice step up, but i have a feeling i will be waiting until my upgrade in March to upgrade. by then, even the prime may be outdated.
but i still think the TB is the 2nd best phone on verizon right now....and if you are a screen whore, it may be #1 as the bionic screen drives me nuts.

Ok, I'll stick my nexk out here and wait for the burn...

I'll keep my TB until I can migrate my unlimited data plan to an iPhone with LTE and a 4" or better screen.

Probably fighting words, but I've been using an iPod touch for years (migrated from a Sony CLIE and Palm) and I really like my set up and apps. I don't like not having cell data which lead me to the TB.

Don't get me wrong, I like my TB and I'm having fun messing around with Android and the apps (I don't use the phone side at all, I have a work BB for that) but there are a couple of key apps that I use which do work better in the IOS world. (For example, the MyNetDiary diet app. In IOS, the interface is smoother and it works off-line. I spend a lot of time in airplanes so that's a big advantage.)

I'm not slitting my wrists over waiting though. With DoubleTwist and MegaTV the TB is every bit the entertainment device the iPod is. Who knows, if Apple takes too long and they come out with a 64GB micro SD (so I can fit my entire iTunes library) I may never switch.

I have been making my phones last about a year. I loved my Droid Incredible, but it took a trip through the wash and pretty much died (Although it went on to another loving home where it was repaired and is now making someone else happy :) The Thunderbolt to me is the same except bigger screen, and when it goes live in my area, 4G. I got a taste on a day trip to Augusta, and it was awesome, I can't wait. But while it does have 4G, everything else about the thunderbolt is last gen tech, so I imagine the next time one of my lines comes up for upgrade I will jump for something else.

I agree, I am a fast phone switcher, but like you have all mentioned nothing shouts 'MUST HAVE' new phone. This phone is now 6 months...doesn't feel like it, but it is. I just two days ago successfully rooted...and wonder why I didn't do this in March! It makes the battery last longer, and the phone smoother, but I know it's not for everyone. I also agree that LTE is mind blowing, showing people I get double and triple their household ISPs give them. And NEVER did I think a cell phone would replace a digital camera, those used to be HORRIBLE quality compared to what they are now. HD would be nice, but not a deal breaker for me...my digital Canon camera doesn't even take HD photos, so that can wait.

After fighting with the bugs, it's been a solid phone. And the only phone I have ever bought a case for. We will see what comes out next that is a 'MUST HAVE' device, but until then, I'm happy.

I will probably wait until my contract is up. While the newer phones on the horizon will out perform the TB, I have yet to see one that can do something that the TB cannot do that I am interested in. I guess at some point it may not be able to play the latest games, but that is pretty much it.

I like gadgety tech, but I am not going to pay hundreds of dollars for goofy, gimmicky stuff. For example, 3D.

So unless a phone comes out that does something interesting that the TB does not do, I will be waiting until January 2013.

Well, I, too, am constantly drooling over the latest "top tier" phones released, but I don't have the money to pay off contract prices for phones. So, I can't get a new phone for an acceptable price ($200 or less, for me) until my upgrade option opens up, which is in December of 2012.

I've been thinking I might not immediately upgrade when I have the chance, though, just because my phone technically already does everything I want it to. On the other hand, ICS (and probably Jellybean, by then) will be out, and I highly doubt the Thunderbolt will officially get either of those, so I might just be too tempted to jump onto the new Android version to hold off.

I just bought it last month so I hope to keep it for 1 year. I no longer want to pay full price for a new phone so ill buy whatever $100 can afford next December.

I actually think that would make for a fun thread (and I'm sure there's already one out there), what if you can remember is your first ever cell phone. I still have a very old cell phone of mine somewhere.

Just for brownie points, my first phone was a Nokia 918. Followed shortly afterwards with a Moto StarTac. After THAT, went to an LG 5200 on Sprint, afterwards...well, I'll just stop lol.

As for Bolt..I'll be keeping it at least a little while longer. I thought about the Bionic, but really, it doesn't seem like THAT huge a jump for me to justify the outright purchase yet. And, partly because my GF's Ally is crapping out quick, and I kinda sorta promised her a Droid 3 soon. After that though, it'll be interesting to see what's out there.

Does everyone pay off contract prices? I mean, Jeez, only reason I was able to afford my TB+screen protector and case+warranty is because I signed up for a Best Buy card and pay like 30-35 bucks a month till Nov next year. I mean, if you buy a new phone in 7, 8, 10 months, aren't you having to pay,oh, 5-600 bucks?

if the nexus prime is released with stock android 4.0 (meaning no TouchWiz), i will definitely be switching. i have been waiting for VZ to get a nexus since the day the N1 came out for T-Mo.
id like a nexus device pretty badly miyself, but not badly enuff for it to be a samsung :( im way to much of an htc fanboy. i like the way they work, plus all my htc devices have been very reliable and durable for me.

im just going to root whatever i get anyway, and run cm"x" on it... soon as ICS source code is released well have cm8 :D

for me,plain android without cm tweeks has become somewhat bland. alot of the original apeal of a nexus device to me has thus diminished.

if the vigor tickles my fancy enuff to have it,i may upgrade my moms line for it. otherwise ill stick with the TB and satisfy my phone ADD by picking up a used dinc 2 in a few months when theyre cheaper.

no matter what phone i go to,ill likely keep the TB... i still have my eris and my inc.

You should've put that thing away in storage. I read an article a few months ago that some guy found an old AOL V1.0 install diskette in his storage, put it up on E-bay and got about $700 for it. Probably the only time those install diskettes were worth anything. I found a V2.0 but it isn't even worth the price of shipping on Ebay. I'm not sure why, everyone knows V2.0 > V1.0!!! heh.....

Depending on where you get it, yes, they aren't cheap. Some of us can fortunately afford such toys. I'm not THAT bad about it (I'm not buying a new phone every 2 months). But, I try to set aside and splurge when something comes out that I decide I do like.

Though sometimes, you can find pretty good deals in the classifieds, people that have upgraded, and decided to switch to another older phone, or do a BOGO and don't really need the 2nd one, so they'll sell them cheaper than full retail on a brand new would be. I'm still torn on that one though. While it is nice to get a deal, if it's not much cheaper, I'll get brand new at the store for warranty reasons.
