Is it possible to choose which apps the accelerometer changes orientation in? For example, I have certain apps that I ALWAYS keep in portrat view. One such example is the Music player, along with other apps I've dl'ed. Also, I'd like to know if I can make it so certain apps will not "time-out" and cut off the screen after my set time of 30 seconds. This is fine for the majority of my apps, but certain things (example: Rehearsal (an app used to record voice memos)) would be better off if they just did not time out. When I'm using Rehearsal I am recording something and when I'm done I stop the recording and exit the app. I'm sick of the screen turning off halfway through my recording ):

I think both of these things you are talking about are possible, but they would have to be an application level setting. In other words, you should put in a feature request for those apps. I have certain apps that block sleep mode as well as fix orientation. But I am pretty sure there is no way to do this without it being part of the application.

What he said. The app itself decides if the accelerometer is used, or whether the app is locked in portrait or landscape mode. I don't think a global (or above application level) setting would be possible, and if it was it may mess up some apps that force a specific mode.

All apps should come with a set of tweaks for Sound, Orientation, etc. Should be part of the SDK! :(

grr this is so frustrating. My main problem is it changes in the music player (really wish I could disable that for Music). I'll be running on the treadmill and I'll try to change the song and it will flip to landscape mode in the middle of me trying to click ">>" I agree why can't all apps have these settings ):

Not sure I agree with this. One of things that I really like about the Droid is that it is very open with app development. Restricting or burdening apps with items that are not necessary should not be a part of the SDK.

If you think app X should have a feature, request it from the developer or look for app Y that may have this feature.

I understand the reasoning for what you want to do and hopefully as apps mature the feature sets will expand.

Actually, I agree with you on that point. Rather, I would have it so the Droid firmware had global settings for each installed app regarding orientation and screen settings. Now you can't argue that that would hinder the open development of Droid apps :)
