Apparently MIUI is pretty darn close to a full release on the Evo 3d :)

Video here: MIUI.us Presents the 1.9.2 Review - YouTube

Source thread here: ROM (WIP) Version 1.9.16 for CDMA HTC EVO 3D

I've actually never used MIUI because I only ever tried CM7 on my Nexus S before I traded it in, but I'm pretty excited to give it a shot, everyone seems to think it's pretty good

What do you guys think?

EDIT: I read elsewhere that it's right closed and only works for people who were already beta testers, but it looks like a .zip can be downloaded right from that thread and flashed ... I'm scared to try it because of the conflicting info haha

[ROM]MIUI.us HTC EVO 3D CDMA Alpha-3 98% Working Enough for Daily - xda-developers

says 98% in xda

looks like bt is the only thing not working besides wimax

Grr, I remembered where I saw the other information ... the hated GoodAndEvo ... here's their direct quote:

MIUI version 1.9.16, alpha 3, is ready to be downloaded and flashed – but only if you are already participating in the closed beta. This is because this most recent update should only be flashed over the base ROM, which I have not been able to find for public download.

Is this just blatantly false? It looks like from that thread you posted that it should be ready to download and flash for anybody!

BTW: imho you should apply to be a mod, I've been on these forums for a good while now and you're consistently the most reliable and helpful person on here

EDIT: Yeah i don't like the lack of an app drawer at all ... But I figured I shouldn't knock it till I try it!

I've been playing around with it for a few days now, certainly not restricted to beta testers. No idea where they got that from.

Besides BT, other issues include bad call quality, reboots when you adjust volume during a call, some elements not being sized for a qhd screen, and no 4g since miui doesn't support it.

I suspect most of those will be resolved over the weekend.

What's your impression of MIUI in general? If I had it I'd probably run ADW Pro since I don't like the iPhone look of their launcher, so is any of the behind-the-scenes stuff better than CM7?

This is actually my first android device so I'm learning everything as I go. I've played with both MIUI and CM7 running off my SD card so I can't make a claim performance wise. I felt MIUI to be much more unique and fun to play with because the way you interact with the phone is so different.
Running a different launcher would probably spoil this for me, and considering it is a port of a closed source project I'd say CM7 comes out on top because it's written for the hardware it runs on (4g, 3d etc). Once all is stable, I'd like to run miui for a while but will likely end up on cm7 with the transparent miui theme.

they both will run 3d, 4g etc once competed. MIUI is based on asop, so once these things work in cm, they will work on miui shortly there after or visa versa

I hope so! I never really understood why certain features are able to be taken from cm7 by the people porting it (sound fixes) while others like 4g are said to be impossible to implement because the project is closed source (china doesn't have wimax). I'm going by the discussions I had over on miui.us where I was told 4g was up to the Chinese devs and unlikely to be available.

i may be slightly wrong, still no 4g for the evo4g , i thought they got it when cm got it. So, while some stuff is kernel based, wifi and bluetooth others like 3d and wimax are different and take longer to produce. Since the evo4g miui thread says 4g is still in the works, i would ASSUME that it will be in the works for the 3d based on demand. however since i live in an non 4g area and when i am in 4g areas i never use it it is a non issue for me

From what I understand of reading the stuff on XDA: Wifi, bluetooth, wimax, etc, all use drivers. When the Evo 3D was built, those drivers were built around using Sense. If you take Sense out of the picture, those drivers don't work. That's why AOSP ROMs out right now are so crippled. The devs are building drivers, and that takes time.

And if the Chinese won't release the source, then they're in violations of licensing agreements. Which probably just can't be enforced over there.

I tried miui on evo4g and it was a pretty slick rom, but I only liked it once I put launcher pro back on it, and if you defeat the launcher you might as well run a regular rom. Which i do.

Lots of work in miui and I still think everyone should try it just to see what's possible, but the imitation ios had me scratching my head after 5 minutes.

MIUI is a very nice ROM. Unfortunately, I felt like their build process was disorganized, unlike CM7. They had a hard time releasing clean, stable builds. Every new version was somewhat too buggy for me to consider it for permanent use. The subsequent releases would fix some, but other issues would regress.

As far as the iPhoneyness, yes, that's kinda annoying, but the amount of features on this ROM really goes to show what iOS could have been capable of. I think MIUI has the best features of any custom ROM, even CM7. And they do put a big emphasis on aesthetics. I just wished they picked a non-Apple aesthetic (like in their music app).

If they're close to getting everything working, I'm definitely going to flash it.
