I bought my Evo 4G a few days ago. I wanted to root it like I did my Droid X(MIUI 1.9.16) so I began to search for guides. I came upon a guide on youtube. I followed him all the way to the step where I drop the pc36img.zip file onto the root of my SD card(I can honestly say I may have misplaced it) Oh yes I didn't make a back up. Stupid I know. Don't need people telling me that.

I then powered down and powered back on holding the Down Volume button. The bootloader(I believe) screen looks like this.

-Revolutionary-
SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.16.1002
MICROP-041f

Do you want to reboot device?

I posted this over in androidcentral.com . I got one reply and attempted to do what he said. I downloaded the files and followed the directions for unrooting out of this guide http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html.

Here is what my bootloader screen looks like:

SUPERSONIC EVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-6.17.0001
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab

Now when I try to go into Recovery it boots the htc logo screen then immediately goes to a black screen with a phone and red triangle and ! .

I have tried clearing storage to no avail and my EVO is fresh out of the box and was stock til all this happend. I am not sure what to do. I want to go back to stock out the box and start all over. But my phone won't boot up. Oh and if I pull battery then try powering up normally, it just stays at the htc EVO 4G screen.

Any thoughts?

i'm curios on what the PC36IMG file needed to root your phone. you really do not need it to root. all root required for gingerbread phone is the revolutionary file and the su file and that is it. do you have a link?

so you can get into bootloader?
did you try the PC36IMG file in the unrooting section of the guide?
i wish you came here first before trying to unroot your phone. we could have gotten you up and running by now. but see if you can get the PC36IMG file to work for you. once you have a phone you can boot up to then just follow my guide and you should be good to go.

You cant boot into recovery with S-on You have to root your phone again and then Flash a custom rom and we can go from there. Ocn should be along soon to walk you through with a better more precise explanation of the process though but it looks like you might have gotten a PC36IMG file with bad radio or something.....

oops i see hes right on it.

ok you need a working phone to reroot. ok so use this file:PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.53.651.1_Radio_ 2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_209995_signed
transfer it to your card and re-name the file by deleting everything but the PC36IMG part of the name. do not add an extra zip as windows hides extensions. this will give you a stock recovery and also a stock rom. it should get your phone up and running.

Yes I currently have this file. The end of the name has like 2 extra 9s and the word signed. Is this correct? Or should I download this instead? NVM I will download this anyways.

yeah good call. i would try this one. just make sure that it is named correctly and on the card and not in any folder.

so rename the long named file that i just downloaded to PC36IMG right?

Thanks again for your help man I am sorry if I am rushing you.

yes rename it to PC36IMG. but again it is important that you do not get the other files confused as they will all be named that. and as long as the file is named correctly and it is on the card and not in any folder then hboot should see it.
