reason to NOT buy from GAMELOFT

Bought a game from GAMELOFT in the past? Got a new phone and want to re-download your game to play on your shiny new device? Here is what GAMELOFT has to say to you:

Hello!

Unfortunately, you can not get the games back on your new phone. According to Gameloft policy if you buy a game, you can re-download it to the same phone with the same phone number within 3 years of your purchase. If the phone model or number was changed by the customer's own initiative, Gameloft has the right to refuse re-sending the game.

You can not re-download or transfer games which you bought on your old phone (model 1) to the new phone (model 2), because we produce each game-build for one particular phone to ensure the best quality and to prevent piracy. If you want to have games on your new phone, I'm afraid you will have to buy them again.

Sorry for the inconveniences. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

As long as you buy from the Android Market, you should be able to download the game to any device you own or will own. Just don't buy from Gameloft directly.

Yeah sure you do...and they do it so good that on my Galaxy S, after buying the Asphalt 6 game, I ended up using a pirated version for the Droid which looks better than the Galaxy S version plus runs perfectly smooth (hardware mode) as opposed to the jumpy Galaxy S version.
They better get their act together...right now they feel all mighty as they are the top mobile game company but things may change in the future..nobody stays at the top forever...

I've lost allot of faith in Gameloft recently, when you move from device to device oftern you realise how poor their support and compatibility really is.

After more than one request they still have not provided games i've previously bought for my Galaxy S for my Galaxy S II plus it takes them months to release older games for new devices and the versions for the Galaxy S II are of very poor quality. I don't think they even support my Asus Transformer.

I'm not giving them another penny, same goes for EA.

I bought "Order & Chaos" for my galaxy S and now when i want to download it from the android market its not there on my new phone.. I don't know why realy but im happy i still have my galaxy s..

I had the exact same problem, I had an HTC Desire from last year. And in february I bought Dungeon Hunter 2. They're saying "we produce each game-build for one particular phone" - they must've left out HTC Desire or something... Because the game requires 45mb of space on internal memory - and if there's something that phone is seriously lacking - it's internal memory... So I could never play the game.

Anyway, now I have a fancy Samsung Galaxy S2, which is one helluva phone btw, and I gave it a shot... I contacted Gameloft and explained to them my story, and how "I never actually got to play it on my HTC which I find rather sad, having paid so much for it." And so I got that exact same email (scroll up) - but even if I got that reply - they still sent me the SMS with the link to download the game.

So yay! I got the game installed on my new phone and VOIL

I'm a shill because I'm a happy customer? You don't think gameloft has ANY satisfied customer? The difference between my story and OP's story - is that I got the SMS "behind their backs". Someone was kind enough to give me the download link on SMS even though they don't actually do that.

They did this for me on my Thunderbolt, but only because the game I bought said it was available and had a broken link. Now? They won't do it anymore. When I got mine, I simply tweeted about it. Now I have a bionic and posted this thread a bit ago:

So, they used to deal with it. Now they want to eat your wallet and laugh at you. I bought quite a few of their games and now I have 0. So I am done with them and their garbage support. It also serves purpose to scare me away from other similar services, like the upcoming SE store or purchasing straight from a developer. This is how they can scam you!

Also this is incorrect. Order and Chaos is from the market and does not support the Bionic. It is a Gameloft game. I cannot download this game either. If I restore the .apk from another device, it simply tells me that my device is not supported.

This is the reason I obtained Madden NFL 12 through "alternate" channels. I don't want to fool with activation or have it phone home to Gameloft. And I want to be able to transfer the APK to my next phone. I'll continue doing this for Gameloft games until they change their policies. All my other games have been purchased in the Android Market or Amazon AppStore, and they allow me to download them onto any device of my choosing.

Madden NFL 12 is an EA game.

One thing I noticed with NOVA HD and others on Android tablets and phones is they do not play as smooth as the HD versions on the iPad 2 or iPod4 (I have a bunch of Gameloft games due to 99 cent sales on iTunes). I like Gameloft games, but not their business approach with Android.

Seems a lot of random lag points. Perhaps the games are lazy iOS ports? Not tried NOVA 2 on Android, but have it for the iPOD (good game- especially for 99 cents).

Gameloft will always sell weaker than should on Android, unless the games are sold through the market. Their stubborn position is hurting their sales. Perhaps Apple has exclusivity ($$$) for market fronts?

I agree completely. Their "hand crafted" version of Modern Combat 2 for my Droid 2 worked so well. Oh wait, no, it was more like playing on a flipbook with the framerate, lol

I got the link before even after moving phones the last time, which was part of my issue. But not this time? their policy is bad and they are inconsistant.

Modern Combat 2 seems like it was designed for the Galaxy S and it works great on that device. Any other device is hit or miss.

Their first ten games were optimized for the original Droid, the next twenty for the Galaxy S. Lately many of their games seems optimized for the Xperia Play. Not sure what device going forward will be their primary focus.

I've been happy with Gameloft as I had a Galaxy S and most games worked great. I've also never had issue getting them to send me copies of games I purchased for the Nexus One and Galaxy S to my Nexus S. But I'd love to see better support for more devices. Only half of their games are available for the Nexus S but all games work if I use the Galaxy S version. I'm also annoyed by the lack of support for the ASUS Transformer as I've run a few games designed for the Xoom and most work well.

I'd like to say I'd never buy any of their games again but as they have made half a dozen great games if another great one comes along I likely will. But I certainly understand anyone who would not buy anything from them again.

Oh we both know he will have the same problems others are having when he upgrades his phone, unless Gameloft make big changes it's kind of inevitable. I wasted money on allot of Gameloft games for my Galaxy S and they won

The original statement is actually true. No matter what game app you buy from the Android Market can be used again on other devices, though not all devices will be supported. This doesn't just go for Gameloft, but for alot of companies. Although there are more supported devices than this, lets say that there are only 10. If you owned all ten of those devices you could install the app you purchased on every one of those devices. If you get a new device that is not on that list, then you are out of luck.

forum will likely not do anything to change their mind. But they do seem to pay attention when major Android blogs write articles about it.
