I want this phone so SO badly, but I really like being able to play around with a phone before I buy it, even though I'm pretty sure about my decision. Do you think that it will ever end up at let's say...a Verizon store when it comes out for CDMA? Or any store for that matter. It would just be a lot easier to seal the deal =P

I have also never seen one "in the wild"...I live in Syracuse, NY and go to college...I have been hoping to see someone take it out of their pocket so I could ask to look at it...that would just be wishful thinking I guess :D

How did you guys feel about buying a phone that you have never actually handled?:)

I've been an early adopter before and was more than happy to try my luck with the N1.

I had the G1 as soon as it was available, the iPhone 3G (I know not strictly new) and the Hero to mention a few.

Mind you I've had my fair share of turkeys - Motorola Z8 (kick slider) and Motorola Razr 2... before the smartphone boom and the SE W960 (pure shite). I'm glad to say the N1 is not in this camp.

I'm sure everything will be fine if I buy it from the site. I'm just concerned about the battery life and tech support, but with pros there are always cons right?:)

the battery takes a couple of days to get primed. just charged to full, and discharged to 0%. repeat again and again 3x throughout a week or so. and you'll get to your full battery potential.

if you really want more juice, you can always purchase an upgrade battery from here: seidioonline.com

Thank you for the advice!:D So when I first get it, charge it all the way and then let it die 3 times every week?

No, just at first.

Although doing this every month or so supposedly keeps it calibrated. I have done nothing with my battery and take no special care with it and it runs fine though. I charge it overnight no matter how much I have used the phone.

You don't need to do that stuff with Li-On batteries, they've moved on since Ni-Mh batteries.

Just charge it when you need to really.

With Lithium Ion batteries, the conditioning is to reset the sensors and OS as to the true empty/full levels. The battery itself doesn't lose capacity, but over time the device being powered can have innaccurate state info. So you're really conditioning your device to your battery with Lithium Ion.

Another poster already said this but let me repeat.

THe reason for charging and letting it completely die on you isn't for the battery's sake but rather to let the phone know what empty and full really are.

The first time you do this you'll be surprised. I charged the phone for a few hours until light turned green, then I played with it until it died.

When my battery got to 10 pct I figured I only had half an hour of use left... I stayed up so late because the phone wouldn't just die.

I stayed at 1pct and 0pct battery for over an hour. The battery wasn't really empty.

So for everyone here thats too good to follow the instructions that come with the phone because you know better: you are missing out on battery life.

You also get 14 days to tinker and see if it's a fit for you, so you have options if you don't like it.
