Metro PCS has 3G now!!!

Well, I'm begining to think they must be testing the towers out or something... Tonight I was at Hillsboro and Hanley (Tampa) and could not get a 3G signal to save my life... I did catch a few flashes of 3G throughout the night in the St. Pete area, but nothing solid... The only difference with my phone tonight is that i have the 3022 PRL running now... Last night I was running the 3020 PRL.

guys my 3g works in Atlanta when i see the 3g icon, back arrow flashing back.
if u don't know what im talking about, look at your notification bad, and look at your 1x or 3G icon. it'll show you one arrow the one pointing up flashing. thats data coming out, but when it flashes down, thats data coming in.
so when ever my 3G icon on my ascend for metro flashes back.
its 3g fast speeds :).
on my preference. if you think 3G doesn't work..
Also i saw when i rebooted and waited 10 minutes that it would flash down and 3g would work on from there but the goes down :( but like i use 3G all the time. Im at school most of my day. and when i get home i use wifi.

Instruction on manual prl update:

1. you need to put the 3022.prl on the root of your sdcard
2. open up your dialer and dial ##775# (be patient, might take a minute or so)
3. it will ask you to enter your MSL number (Master Subsidy Lock), enter it
4. from the menu it brings up you will be able to update your prl with the file you placed on your sdcard. it will auto recognize it in the dropdown list if it's there.
5. Your phone should auto reboot itself after installing the prl and you should then be good to go.

My password or MSL number happened to be "000000"
It may be different for your phone, but once it rebooted I was seeing 3G service. It was nice to see but it is spotty in West Palm and I don't think the data part was working right since my mail stops syncing when on 3G. But great update none the less...

I'm not sure how to activate it. might depend on which city u live in. I'm in jacksonville fl. and to check if u have it, the 1x icon in your status bar should b 3G, also ur connection type should b CDMA EvDo rev

Have you tried getting your MEID number and converting it to the metro spc number then writing the 3022 prl file to phone i did it worked but i didnt get and 3g symbol coming from bakersfield cali.

Would this work on the Samsung Admire? I dialed ##775# and nothing.

Here is the QPST I use and the PRL. I'd love to give credit to whoever originally obtained the PRL but to be honest I don't even remember where I got it. It is safe tho and works, that I can assure.

Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire

1. Installed QPST.

2. From the start menu I found the QPST folder and started QPST Configuration

3. Had my Ascend connected and opened Device Manager and expanded the Ports icon. I took note of the COM number listed beside the DBAdapter Reserved Interface, which in my case was (COM15)

4. In QPST Configuration I clicked Add New Port at the bottom right and selected the COM15 and enabled it.

5. After that I went back to the start menu,QPST and opened Service Programming. A box popped up asking for a phone and since I only had the one I just clicked OK and a new box with alot of tabs opened.

6. If you go to the Roam tab at the bottom there is a Preferred Roaming area with an area asking for a file. Browse for the PRL and when finished click the Write to Phone button at the bottom of the window. It will ask for your SPC. After that it writes to the phone and the phone reboots on its own. You should let it reboot fully and not unplug it from the computer or mess with QPST while it's doing so.

When the phone is done booting you can close the program and unhook the phone. It took about 10 minutes for data to start working but 3G works fine on it when I'm in a 3G area. My Ascend is using the bloatware free stock 2.2 ROM found on here and I've had no problems for the week with it. Hopefully this can be helpful for someone and sorry if it's not made out too well, pretty bad at explaining things :p

Just a small note:

I'm in daytona beach and while out at daytona state college, i turned my metropcs ascend off and back on and the network automatically updated to 3019.

The 3G was not working at the time so i went back to 3018 by turn-off-back-on. A week later (2-3 weeks ago), i turned the phone back off and on and the update was on 3022 PRL while at DSC.

Updating roaming list (IMO) can be done with *228 or turn-off-back-on. Hence when you turn the phone back on, the 1X is sending out and receiving data to check for updates on the phone (aka PRL).

I CAN confirm for a fact that 3G IS available in the daytona beach area. On the ride back home in ormond, i lose it and go back to 1X.

Thanks.

Edit: If you are trying to update the phone, try going in to a very popular signal area (where you get 3-max bars) and do the turn-off-back-on method or try *228

Edit2: Downside to this, imo: battery degrades quicker if you have 0-1 bars while on 3G, be careful! Try using "droidwall" to prevent other apps from using data if you're on mobile network or on wifi!

Switched back to 3019 a few days ago hoping for better battery life. Woke up at 8pm tonight and my phone was on 3g....And it was actually WORKING!!!! I used to get 3g all the time in diff areas with 3022 but it never actually worked. My neighbor has an Ascend and I ask him tonight did he have 3g on his phone. He said he did and had called metro today to ask about it and was told that they just added a 3g tower in Pinellas Park. Not sure how truthful that is but I can definitely say that I have an active 3g connection here in St. Petersburg for the first time with prl 3019. Will try a speedtest later
