Root Joneidy vs GNM recovery?

I put the Joneidy custom recovery on my phone, before I knew anything about modding. I soon realized that there is another recovery, GNM recovery. Is GNM better in any way? does it have any features that Joneidy's doesn't? If it does is it possible to flash over to it, I have 2.2.1 and am running Reppard's CM7
Any input would be apreciated

the GNM is slightly newer, it has fully working menu's
joneidy's was a rework of gnm for 2.2 and a few things dont work as they should, for example joneidy's doesnt fix the sd ext partitions it can create it but after that it cant do anything with it. There is other things as well but I cant think of them at this moment.
You can flash right over it, in fact I just recently heard about flashimagegui

you can let that take all the work out of it it is an app you put on your phone get it from xda if your registered or from market.

Anyways I downloaded the app but in the list of compatiable phones the Optimus isn't there? does that matter or can I just go ahead and flash it?

for one, recovery doesnt matter what the os platform is and there are 3 recoveries available

Ok i flashed it said it was successful and it rebooted now it is stuck at the red Lg logo screen it has been for the last 2 minutes? Is it bootlooping?

And playful god what is the 3rd recovery?

CWM and it can be installed easily with flash image gui too

I have used flashimagegui to put the gnm recovery on my phone. I started out with GNM's recovery, went to CWM recovery, back to GNM's and now I have CWM again. I used the flashimage app to put GNM's back on the first time, over CWM. It worked flawlessly for me. And yes, it called my phone a Optimus S or V. It still worked for me.

that is not normal, did you download the correct flash image and put on your sd card?

You would have needed to do that manually not through the app

not sure how the all in one's do it, but it evidently isnt using the fstab for the V or S or u would had a brick

It works I flashed it and now I have GNM recovery

i did the flash image thing and somehow bricked...
with the warrenty, got another OM, n this one been ok. running PG's cm7, oc'd n stable@825mhz...
flashed cwm thru terminal n timidly rebooted with no issues. rom manager even works.
i like dat in cwm, u can do the advanced restore- didnt work on joneidy's for me

Restore didn't work that good in Joneidys, GNM the restore functions all worked.

yeah pretty much the only differances with between GNM and CWM are that CWM can wipe each partition individually, whereas GNM cannot, under the mounts menu, GNM only has mount /unmount, and CWM has mount/unmount and wipe options. and on some phones, CWM will not work with the sd-ext.. not all.. plenty of people using ti where it will backup their sd-ext.. but a few whos it wont backup sd-ext

CWM's older than 3.0.2.8 I think it is wont work with sd-ext, anything newer than that can.

the version i flashed was 4.something.. the one linked in your post.. maybe it was because i was using EXT4? but i tihnk the newer version would support that.. either way.. they are both very usefull, maybe i shouldve tried doing a ext repair in cwm to make it work?

the kernel has to have ext4 support in it for ex4 I know my kernel supports it and swap, not sure about reppards (his new one should) and Bobz.

yeah reppards supports it, it worked on mine when i was testing a2sd beta5 and was using EXT4 partition, that was on the 9/06 update of the rom

This is kinda off topic but since I see lots of recovery switching and replacement I decided to share my method with you guys.

To flash a recovery to stock the easy way do this:

Copy the flash_image file to /system/bin/
Copy the recovery to the root of your sdcard
Open terminal or ADB shell and just type this command:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
flash_image recovery /sdcard/yourrecoveryhere.img

This works even from a fresh stock restore and cuts out all the annoying copy/paste of commands Enjoy!

those commands only work if you have busybox installed in /system/bin/ or /system/xbin/ and to copy flash_image to /system/bin system has to already be mounted as rw.

If you rooted it with gingerbreak you should have no prob. With the commands....
