Root [ROM][WIP] BACKside ROM (CM7) + Green Machine Theme

I can confirm that changing from smartass to any other setting brings linpack and quadrant score back to normal levels.

bobz's kernel got me stuck on the lg screen as well.

You need to flash the recovery to you phone again, then you can restore your backup to get your phone back to running.

This is the first time I flash kernel only, and I was stuck on the lg screen too.

I was just wondering.. Three questions: If I have an app downloading something in the background (let's say I was using aDownloader and downloading a torrent) and my Wifi sleep policy is set to "When screen turns off", will it disconnect my wifi whilst my download is active?

Also, let's say I was going to flash a new version of the ROM. If I use Link2SD and I proceed to wipe the cache partition and wipe the dalvik-cache, will it cause problems? Will it wipe my dalvik-cache on my sd-ext properly?

Finally, if I use Link2SD and an app automatically installs onto SD (instead of Link2SD moving it to my ext4 partition), does the stock app2sd function move the library files and dalvik files onto my SD card as well? Or just the app itself is moved to my SD card?

Where is the default wallpaper? I decided to go back to my black glass GO Launcher theme but it changed my wallpaper from the green wispy thing to the theme wallpaper.

I would like to go back to it, but can't find it.

It should be under CyanogenMod Wallpapers, the first selection. If you don't have the CM Wallpapers, I've attached the image file to this post.

The wifi will normally turn off when the screen goes off if you've set it that way, but some apps can keep it going. You might email the dev of the downloading app you are using and ask them.

For link2sd questions, I'm sorry, I don't use it or anything other than the built in apps2sd. I use TitaniumBackup to manage my storage space. Apps I use less than once a week, I backup and then uninstall. When I need them, I just restore them, use them, then re-backup and uninstall. It only takes 30 seconds to restore an app, so for those I use infrequently, it's not too much of a pita. This gives me virtually unlimited app space since you can do it with apps you use more often as well if you like. ;)

Smartass has always been a questionable governor at best. The name is a ironically a good one, since you have to be a smartass to get it to work right! ;)

I read that Bob said you don't have to wipe anything, but considering what the effect of that was, maybe if you wiped cache partition and Dalvik cache like most kernel installs it might help.

Ahh thank you I see. :) Oh what about my last question about the built-in app2sd. Do you know if it moves the dalvik and library files to the SD with the app itself or does it only move the app and leaves the dalvik+ library files on the phone?

Wiping cache partition and Dalvik cache won't help in this special version of kernel.

I am using Jerry's backside ROM, and I think this ROM does not have a2sd executable.

While booting into the phone after flashing the new kernel, the first error message in the debug log is Can't open /system/bin/a2sd, and the shell terminated by exit(2). And the system hang in the LG logo screen.

So, unless you have a2sd installed, don't flash this kernel yet.

Link2sd is very picky. When installing new rom or update you need to do a full reformat which will also format the sd ext or it will not work and your phone will act wierd.
The stock app does not move them you will need to go into link2sd select manage under the app that says in red letters on sd card then move to phone then once it has finished moving select push back select create link make sure all three are selected and hit ok. Its a pain initially but in the long run worth it. I have 201 user apps, I use them all at different times, and 124mb free internal space.

Actually, I noticed a slowdown when I was set to "SmartAss" governor. I tested Quadrant with smartass/min.480/max.806 and got like 700+ scores. I changed it to Performance/min.480/max.480 and I got these 1400+ scores. Try Performance setting then test it. Unless.. you're already set to performance then IDK IDK

I was running 480/825(and 806) on performance when I was testing.

And I'm beginning to experience several issues with this build, such as; wifi not connecting properly(says its connected, but when I use anything that requiresan internet connection, it says connection lost, or retry no. connection), mobile data not connecting or starting up(never had this problem till now, data seems to not want to start or connect about 75% of the time), random UI reboots(the phone will randomly freeze, a.d the reboot itself),getting several error or force closed messages("process system has stopped running" seems to come up almost every 5-30 minutes, as well as go launcher, Facebook, browser, just about any app that I can run), phone seems to be slowing down(I have mine set to 480/825(806) on performance, yet it seems to be running no higher than 480 if not less), touch screen responsiveness.(seems to have a large delay or lag in the response time), boot/startup time(seems to be taking 2-5 minutes longer than usual to boot up, and startup my launcher, and load my apps), slower read/write speeds(just that, it takes a lot longer for my SD card to be read, and to move/copy/delete/add/create files on the SD card on the phone), load time(its taking longer to load anything, such as starting up an app, it sometimes takes as long as 4-6 minutes if it doesn't freeze and force close)
Graphics are great though :D
With all that said, I'm going to revert to a previous build.

I removed the kernel update link. It worked for me, but I was basically using the same kernel. I also thought other would have no problems with the update...was I wrong!
Sorry for not thinking/testing things through,
Bob

Bob,

Please don't feel bad about it. We all know what could happen to flash kernel or ROM to our phone.

Thanks for your kernel / ROM, please keep them coming.

No, built in app2sd does not move the dalvik or data files to sd, only the app itself.

Any CPU speed above 800MHZ might cause all kinds of problems with your system. Always leave the "apply on boot" unchecked. This will allow for better boot ups and installs of updates. It doesn't hurt to set the CPU speed back down to 600MHz before an install of an update(this seems to help keep the integrity of the update intact better)
Try doing a fresh install of the ROM and gapps, only this time make sure your CPU speed is set to 600MHz until after you have rebooted a couple of times and set up all your apps. Then remember that anything over 800MHz will cause system glitches. If set higher than 800MHz for gaming, then when done, set back to maybe 787 or 768 if you want to use the rest of the phone.
Also if you want to install the theme wait until a couple of reboots of the ROM before installing, this helped me a lot in maintaining the integrity of the ROM.
