What are the problems/quirks, etc. on the Sprint Version?

Hello all,

1st off, I hope that I'm in the right sub forum. Samsung really needs to simplify and come out w/ a new phone moniker, lol. I'm looking at an upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G for Sprint.

I've been anticipating this one and am about to pull the trigger. But before I do, I need to know how the GPS is (something it seems Samsung is notorious for ucking fup). I have a Samsung Moment now and it is utter sh1te as is the breadth of community that try to correct it. My GPS Is broke in it and I firmly believe it is a hardware problem. It has always been that way. I've read the Euro S II is mired in similar problems.

Fast, quick, and stable GPS fox is essential for my daily usage (Goog Nav, Locus, Yelp, Runkeeper, Maps, etc.). Is there any other issues? I plan to root as soon as I get it, so minor battery life expectancy vs real world results I'm really not that concerned with.

Got it on day one, and I've yet to find any problems. To be honest, its the most flawless launch day phone I've seen. And, its just an all-around awesome device.

I have had no issues with the phone. Flawless, fast, and like a mini plasma tv. I came from Evo3d and don't regret it.

this phone is what all other phone isn't.... flawless. I literally can't find any problems or flas with this phone at all. everything works the way it should!

wow... thx guys! now I'm REALLY looking forward to it. see that target has it for $150, maybe bite now or wait a min but I'm 99% on it being my next go to!

But just to be clear, none of the pronounced problems w/ this phone in Europe have creeped into the CDMA manufactured phones?

Sprint has effectively eliminated early full upgrade eligibility to existing customers effective July 30th 2011. Prior to that, customers could simply call, speak w/ retention and be allowed an early full upgrade. After a LONG, TUMULTUOUS wait over the phone and multiple departments, I've learned this is no longer the case.

Sad really... I'm only asking for a 3 months early upgrade and I'd be buying 3 new phones, adding a line, and paying $30 more a mo for their 'premium data' and the best they can offer is two weeks early upgrade, lol!

Seems in Sprint's best interest to allow it. I think this plethora of new super smartphones has gone straight to their head. Perhaps they forget that still trail Verizon and ATT's customer base by a wide margin.

Thinking about just buying a SGSII for $530 and selling it when I don't want it. Shouldn't be hard to recoup much of that within a year (and if rooted, and loaded w/ apps) as long as I don't break it, haha!

I wasn't eligible for the upgrade to ET 4G having just gotten the EVO 4G 6 mos ago. I bought the ET4G at the Sprint store for $413.00 (got $87.00 trade in value for EVO 4G) and personally i think this version is better than the Int'l one with the bigger screen, notification light and a few other minor improvements is worth the full retail price. Sprint even offered to stretch out the payments for a few months with no interest, but i decided to pay an extra 75.00 a week and by the time the bill arrives the thing will be paid in full and be MINE! MINE! MINE!.. Best $413.00 bucks i ever spent...

Every single phone i have ever had no matter HOW great it was there was ALWAYS something i WISH it had from another phone i owned, but unequivically i have got to say: i love love love this phone absolutely unlike no other : )

Seriously, this thing smokes! Damn, my HTC Inc now acts like a flip phone with an etch-a-sketch.

Only issue so far is WiFi keeps scanning and even fully connected, tries to do same. Known bug, not a show stopper though.

Just upgraded wife's old Blackberry for this stupid fast phone. Way more than she will ever need.

Screen is just as others say, like a hand carry plasma. Netflix never looked this good and sharp.

Still playing with it, but so far besides the WiFi bug, I find this thing worth the $200 I paid at Sprint. It will smoke any Iphone for features, screen and speed.

Dude, pull the trigger, get this stupid fast unit.... or wait for a Nexus Prime..

you would think, but I spoke to retention man's boss' boss' boss, lol.

no go anymore. i'm kinda glad in a way. after thinking about it further, i realized how much better it might be for me to go no contract. wife will just keep her crappy phone as she mostly tethers iPad2 anyway, so I'll save one premium data fee $10 there. i also won't be leaving Sprint any leverage to renege on my corp discount (saves me $30 mo!). if they pull any funny business, I can just say buh-bye to them; then sell the phone for marginally less than what I paid (going rate seems 430ish). No frills T-Mo is my economical safety net when push comes to shove.

I've never bought a no contract CDMA phone, but now I wonder why I never have... easier to upgrade that way whenever I want (like many here I would imagine) and always someone willing to buy a no contract/clean ESN superphone.

can't that wifi bug be mitigated by freezing the share/tether app causing it, or just outright removing it after root from /system/app?

This phone is an absolute beast and hands down is the all around best Android phone you can buy currently.

The user experience just makes all other android phones look bad.

The big downside is I probably wont see ice cream sandwich till May of next year. Short of that, you can't go wrong with this one.

I'm really liking the camera as well. Takes outstanding pics for a phone.

For ANY device period! ... even a standalone vid camera cannot top this from the little 2 inch viewer, to features, to quality, not even Samsung brand matches it.... i KNOW, cuz i was like, maybe i'll go get a dedicated camcorder with a capture button and there wasn't anything that matches the phone on this camera (i didn't go over looking at the 700.00 range, but still....
