USB Tethering not working for Data Connection

So, I am trying to use the USB Cable with my phone, to get a mobile "wireless" device. There is a slight problem with it though. Every time I enable this feature through:
Settings > Wireless Controls > Mobile Networking Sharing

I always get Error Code 67 .Registration failure. Press [OK] for Options. Your PCS Vision username and/or password may be incorrect. Please try again.

I can access data connection without a problem on my phone while just using the browser on the phone, so it isn't a user/pass problem as far as I think.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I tried searching, but I didn't find anything directly related to this issue.

It's free and super easy to use!

After you download it on the phone, plug the phone into the computer via the usb cable. Enable USB debugging under applications development. Go into the phone under downloads and run the PDAnet.exe on your pc. After that push the connect on the phone for the pdanet software and your done.

Should take less than 10 mins! Works great! You just can't go to https: sites using the free version.

Better yet... ROOT the phone and then load Fresh 1.1 and then you can do wireless tether if you want.

I do already have a rooted Hero, and Fresh1.1 installed, but I was wanting something that wouldn't eat up the battery like Wireless Tethering does. I plan on using Wireless Tethering if that is one of the few resorts I have.

Is there any reason that it doesn't flat out work? A software problem on Sprint's behalf?

This isn't quite true. With a little patience you can, in fact, USB tether without any software or rooting.

I'm pretty sure USB debugging has to be on for this, but I know it won't hurt to have it on. Go into settings>wireless controls and turn off mobile networking. Go into mobile network settings and set Mode of Operation to 1x ONLY. Go back to wireless controls, turn on mobile networking, and then IMMEDIATELY tap mobile network sharing. You have to time it so that you press it the instant it lights up, but you'll get the hang of it quickly. It may take you quite a few tries to do successfully--if you get the error you saw earlier, just uncheck mobile network and try again until the error doesn't show up. Once you confirm you have internet access, you can go back in and change the mode of operation to hybrid for 3G access.

I know this sounds a little ridiculous, but it does work (I got this off a guide topic that should still be around this board if you search "tether"). This way will give you access to https pages, which you can't get without buying the full version of PDAnet, although it is an excellent program and is much less frustrating to use. This way isn't bad though, I got the hang of it rather quickly. Good luck!
