Are there wifi connectivity issues with this phone?

Was hoping to upgrade my phone from the HTC desire and the sgs2 seems clearly to be the best phone on the market right now. Thing is I use my phone as my main device for surfing the net when at home on my WiFi. It's important to me that the phone operates well using WiFi. I'm hearing tho that this phone has issues with wifi connectivity, some say its minor some say its major.

How are people finding WiFi on this phone?

See, to me that says there are deffo issues. The difference between wifi and 3g on my desire is night and day. Infact wifi is always better on any device i use. It's certainly a little concerning.

I'm in the same situation as you. Have desire and looking for excuse to update... but the wifi issues with this phone put me off. Wifi on the desire is perfect, even miles away from the router. But lots of people say that unless you are in the same room as the router, you might as well not bother.

And the whole "sometimes 3g is better" makes me very concerned... as this should never be the case.

Im really unimpressed with wifi and 3G connectivity with this phone. The wifi signal never shows as full even when im sat a few feet away from my router, and occasionally it wont connect to the internet even though it says im connected. 3G is weird, it goes from 3G+ to GPRS for no reason, even when its just sat in the same spot. Having said all that, turning wifi on and off fixes my issue, a pain, but nothing i cant live with. The issues dont really detract from my enjoyment of the phone and it will feel massively impressive after you Desire.

Personally I've had no wifi issues. The connection to my router is just as good as my Desire Z; the notification icon shows a poorer signal but the raw figures from Wifi Analyser are almost identical. The GS2 establishes connection at my street door, two floors down from the router which is on the opposite side of the room.

It would appear some folk claming to have run tests conclude that the WiFi signal results on both the desire and sgs2 are similar but the sgs2 indicator is showing a false low reading.

Some people refute this. Surely if it was a display fault Samsung would have sorted it.

Thoughts?

I don't know what all the who-Har is about. I have seen other postings also. SGS2 wifi works fine, and runs faster than 3G. So it is usually wifi at home, mobile data every where else, with the odd public wifi hotspot. Most of the time people haven't spent the time or effort on looking at their router. If anyone has wifi issues on the SGS2 that's the first place they should go. Change the channel, power etc. or update your router if needed. Last time I ran Speedtest.net I was getting over 10,000 kbps through wifi through to their internet servers, while the lan speed between phone and desktop is reported as 65Mbps although I have no need to test it. It just works.
