I am a new android user and just recently purchased the Samsung Infuse with AT&T. I'm looking for a tethering solution. I would like to set up tethering from my phone to mac laptop however, 1) I'd like to be able to set it up so I don't initially need a separate internet connection for the laptop to prepare everything to tether, 2) am trying to avoid having to subscribe to AT&T's monthly tethering plan, and 3) am trying to avoid having to root my phone in order to do this.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there an app that would allow me to set up tethering just by connecting my laptop via the USB cord without having to subscribe to AT&T and without having to download anything onto the Laptop first?

I can't personally vouch for the app linked below but it looks like something that might work for you. I have to say though that I've seen more and more people getting notices from AT&T about people tethering so I think they're getting smarter at detecting it so I'd urge caution.

With that said, this is a pretty popular app and well received it seems...

Ive been wondering about the tethering. I dont have it but seems like a cool concept for people that travel a lot... So if u tether ur device to ur phone wouldnt this other device eat up data plan??? I dont see the benifits if thats the case.
Yes, tethering will eat your data plan. However, if you NEED a data connection, then it is invaluble to have. Also, if you have had your data plan for a while, you are grandfathered into an unlimited plan. (such as myself). My data plan is truly unlimited. I can push 10 GB over the cellular network if I so desire, (and I have done so)
