You can transfer it, but you can't play it. There are programs that can converted m4p files to unprotected AAC files, but most of them require old versions of iTunes to run. The only other way of doing it is either to upgrade your files to iTunes+ format (which you'll have to pay for) or burn them to a CD and reimport them as MP3s or unprotected AACs and transfer the new copies across.
One of the many reasons i never bothered with iTunes. And corporations why people just pirate music. Not saying its the right thing to do, but why is it when you try to do things the legal way you end up with less.. lol
But i digress. Yeah your only out is to convert to non drm.

I use an application called NoteBurner which will create a virtual CD drive and allow you to 'burn CD's" from your iTunes library as files. A bit pricey, but it was my best solution to take some Audio books and put them on my phone so I can stream them though Bluetooth while driving.
