Root Rooting for the first time.

I have looked at all the guides over and over and I cant find one that specifically says for an Orange branded desire.

Also, this goldcard thing, is it possible to root my phone without it ? As I dont have a micro usb adapter is it possible to just root the phone without the hassle ?

All gsm desires are the same if android 2.2.

You don't need a card reader (the desire is a card reader) but with the new 2.3 RUU, you don't really have to have a goldcard anymore but it is recommended just in case

theres the sim card thing tho remember?

imo i would unlock your device to all networks using the sim unlock utility fround on the xda dev website (no longer needs bootable cd)

hmmm are you on on dev build 2.3 from htc?
you need to install the hboot drivers, when the phone boots to hboot do you see the device in "device manager" on you pc
anyway, read the above posts its not needed unless you actaily want it unlocking
last year people said they had problems if the rooted with the orange sim in but it seems its a red herring

Its a brand new Orange Desire, got it yesterday. It has a stock 2.2 rom but for some reason it has some "traffic" app which wasnt on my old Desire. Build number 2.17.61.3 if that helps

thats fine, when the device is rebooted to hboot go to windows device manager and see if the computer is picking it up. if its is not make sure you have installed the drivers for hboot if you havent already
they can be found public:windows_hboot_driver_install [RootWiki]

Titanium, nandroid, SMS backup.

After reading guide after guide, I flashed the latest MIUI rom and now my phone is in a bootloop and wont go into recovery.

It gets to a screen saying MIUI, then stops and restarts that screen. When I try the vol down - power on, it turns on, gets to HTC screen then keeps looping on MIUI.

Does this mean my phone is bricked.

no it means its bootlooping.

please explain the process you went through to flash miui
what is the name of the zipfile you downloaded to flash?

Wiped the dalvik cache and then re installed zip from sd card
