Help car dock vs car charger ?

so here's my problem......i have used my hdmi cable( from the original box) to connect to my i phone port in my car to charge it while using pandora or whatever. it'll charge for apx 10 sec. then a reading error message comes on the radio screen and it'll stop charging. i have the phone set to charge only.

i had another phone( htc hero) and did the same thing no issues at all. do i need to get the car dock to charge this phone or something else. i've called motorola customer service and they're sending me a new charger or charger cord, but mine will charge at home.

i'm totally confused as to why it won't work.....is there a setting i'm missing or what ??

Ok so I think you mean usb cable not hdmi. The problem may be the usb port in your car may not have enough juice to correctly charge. Try one of these Amazon.com: Motorola Vehicle Power Adapter micro-USB Rapid Rate Charger: Cell Phones & Accessories. Much cheaper than the car dock.
