Accessories Jawbone Jambox: Little Bluetooth Box, Big Sound

That is really cool, though I have ability to plug my Evo in using the 3.5mm jack in most places I go. If not, I have a bluetooth adaptor that makes any speakers bluetooth capable and no sound quality is lost...only paid $20 for it on Woot.com.....and its almost as small as a bluetooth earpiece, so traveling with it is super easy.

Now dont get me wrong, this thing is super cool. If I was rich I would buy one just for the heck of it. But I'm not so I gotta spend my money wisely, and my $20 adaptor gets the job done....not to mention makes my full surround sount setup with 12" sub in my living room is playing music from my Evo wirelessly. Now that is cool!!

i just played with the Jambox at Best Buy. easily and quickly paired it up with my EVO 4G via Bluetooth and i have to say i was disappointed. the sound volume and quality over Bluetooth was poor. volume was very low and quality had a slight humming sound at higher levels. i was standing right in front of the jambox so distance was not an issue. i've heard that volume and quality get better if you connect devices directly via aux cord (obviously) - but then what's the point? also i played "free" Pandora to test. perhaps if i played mp3s instead - the quality would have been better and volume would have been louder. IMO no way is this worth $200. i would MAYBE buy it for $50. the device is cool because it's very small - literally about the size of a red brick. lastly - this was a display unit so i'm not sure if it was gimped or not - but i don't think so.

I have used this extensively. This is the highest quality and loudest sound you're going to get from something even close to this size. It's PLENTY loud enough for use in the house even using bluetooth. Even with 10 people drunk talking etc. Plenty of low end bump too. Sounds great.

The sound is louder with the 3.5mm jack than bluetooth.

The real allure is the fact it uses it's own internal battery. It's small and can easy be carried whenever you need it, then run a solid 8-10 hours blasting. So though the Bose, Kicker, or Dre Beats sound docks are louder, you have to be tethered to the wall and watch out for the cord. I admit it's a little pricey, but you have to understand the allure of it.

i just tried the Jambox again and was again disappointed. my niece bought the device and this time we streamed Pandora with her iPhone 4 via Bluetooth. volume max was poor and sound quality at higher levels was also poor. then we tried it with the direct connect aux cable. a little better but still poor. my little $10 Sony FM transistor radio is louder with clearer sound. i advised her to return the Jambox. i really wanted to like this thing but i just can't.

Deja vu all over again ;)

I've been shopping for these lately as well, the Jambox had been the leader in the clubhouse until the bluetooth Bose Soundlink was released.... but that is too expensive. I am holding out hope that someone gets that for me as a gift

Anyway, in the mean time, I ordered a Monster Clarity HD for $60 and change. I have not received it yet, but for the price I am sure I will find a use for it, even if it is only as a speakerphone for my home office. I'll be sure to check back in once I have tested it out.

The concept is neat, i'd love to find a slick way to play decent music wirelessly.

Unless there was a huge improvement over the Jambox for the minor price difference and bluetooth convenience I'd go the the Jambox.

Jambox pros -

1. small/sleek/light/cool form factor and design and build quality.
2. rechargeable lithium ion battery.
3. true native built in bluetooth.

Jambox cons -

1. poor sound quality - especially at higher levels.
2. poor volume. it does not get very loud at all!

i think the Brookstone device gets much, much louder. of course, there are tradeoffs.
