Hello all, I've been an iPhone user for about 4 years now. I love the phone, but I've just grown tired of it. I'm a long-time at&t user and I've set my sights on the HTC inspire 4G. The HTC inspire has a beautiful interface, but that's kinda all I know about it lol. I'm not really a tech person, I use my phone music, YouTube, Facebook, twitter, Internet browsing, email, and the occasional game. I have a few questions for the inspire:

Can I run YouTube videos in the background?
I have a Mac, is there a way I can put all my iTunes music on the android?
Is there a way I can transfer my apps from iPhone to the android phone?
A cool thing about android is that it syncs your Facebook friends with your contacts, what if I DON'T want this to happen? I just want the contacts I already have in my phone.
On the iPhone, all my email is managed in one app. I have 3 accounts I use (2 gmail and 1 yahoo). Is this the case for android or will I have to download a 3rd-party app for yahoo?
How exactly does music and app downloading work? On the iPhone, my iTunes account was charged if I bought a song or app? I would guess that if I bought something off the inspire, it would go to my phone bill. Is this the case?
Does the inspire have cut, copy, paste, and undo?
How big is the memory for the inspire? My iPhone is 16 gigs.

Is there a way I can transfer my apps from iPhone to the android phone? Not really. You can download the equivalent from the Android Market.
A cool thing about android is that it syncs your Facebook friends with your contacts, what if I DON'T want this to happen? I just want the contacts I already have in my phone. You can control this. I don't sync Facebook either.
On the iPhone, all my email is managed in one app. I have 3 accounts I use (2 gmail and 1 yahoo). Is this the case for android or will I have to download a 3rd-party app for yahoo? You will use a dedicated Gmail app for Gmail, and the stock mail app for all other email.

Depending on the carrier, you can set up your own Google Checkout, like PayPal, to pay for the content / apps.

How big is the memory for the inspire? My iPhone is 16 gigs. The inspire has 4GB built in, and an expandable external microSD card slot up to 32GB in storage.

Can you simultaneously watch and listen to a YouTube video while also running another app in the foreground? No. Can you play YouTube on your phone and do something else (like cook or knit or write a letter)? Yes.

Yes, but it won't be as simple as with the iPhone. You'll have to either manually drag and drop the songs in via Finder or use third-party software like DoubleTwist to sync it up (first DoubleTwist has to sync with iTunes and then with your Android phone, so there's an intermediate step.

No, but most iPhone apps have Android equivalents you can install (and they're usually cost-free).

Then turn it off. All contact syncing is optional.

If Yahoo is POP3- or IMAP-friendly, then yes. There's Gmail, and there's also a built-in Email app. And there are also third-party.

It depends what store you bought it from. You can buy from the Amazon MP3 store. If your phone has a built-in store of some kind, probably your wireless carrier will charge it to your phone bill.

I don't know specifically about the Inspire, but most Android phones have cut, copy, and paste. Not sure about undo.

HTC Sense is fully capable of handling Gmail and Yahoo email accounts in a single application. I do that on my Evo 3D. Every Android device made by HTC has a variant of Sense on it.

As for your last question, yes to all but undo. I'm not sure if undo is there. Usually the back key will do any type of undo function. But I would need an example of what you mean to clarify.

I thought that most iTunes music came with no DRM as of late. My Droid Charge supports all of my past iTunes purchased music. I don't see why that phone won't either.

For Syncing to Itunes I'd recommend Tunesync - allows you to sync playlists just as before and syncs over wireless unlike the iphone.
Pics & videos should transfer fine

You need the account, but HTC Mail has always seemed better than Gmail, so I get all my mail via the HTC Mail app and never use the Gmail app at all.

Yahoo email does get screwy and it's not Android's fault, it's Yahoo. So, some days it just won't work (they muck around with their servers quite a bit). Which app you use has nothing to do with it, but there are known workaround for it.

A few other notes, btw - memory between an iPhone and an Android are not comparable where apps are concerned - you'll find that Android apps tend to be rather small (100k or so in general) because they can rely on the underlying shared libraries and services built in to the operating system. iOS apps each copy in what's required so, iPhones have more memory because they need more memory. As already noted tho, your personal files (such as music) will go on the expandable micro SD memory card.

As for music, mp3 is great because it's ubiquitous, but if your music is already in AAC or Apple's proprietary lossless format, that's really not a problem if you simply choose a (free) add-on music player. I use Meridian, but there are plenty of other great ones to choose from.

Yes. Once they are on your Mac, there'd be no problem. If you connect your Android to your computer and select mass storage mode, you can treat it like any other USB thumb flash drive. The iPhone is the only phone in existence without that capability AFAIK(unless maybe you jailbreak?).

Google Music will be able to automatically convert anything you have into .mp3. I'm currently using their beta service with cloud and everything I had on my old iphone along with my itunes is now on my Thunderbolt.

I'll hopefully be making the switch from an iP4 to the S2 come Sunday. Unless apple wow's me on the 4th, I'll be sticking with the Android. I'm a little nervous after reading some minor issues, as not many people can deny the iPhone/itunes just works, but I'm willing to give it a go.

Cheetah Sync lets you sync files/music/media/pictures/anything Via your home Wifi Network. Automatically.

Meaning if it's on your computer, you can can have it sync to your SD card automatically. I love it.

To be sure, they're great phones - if they weren't, they wouldn't sell so many of them (assuming the next releases continues the tradition).

With Android, you simply get more choices in handsets and features and setups.

I think the new iOS features are nice - we used to call that feature set Android 1.6, but, hey, those are good features.

When someone makes the perfect phone, probably we'll all buy it - in the meantime, I think we consumers win with competing products, so I'm glad both options exist.

For myself, it's Android all the way.

lol..iOS 5 doesn't have any kind of significant change except for the notification bar (which they ripped off android). The rest of that stuff I could care less about. Hopefully I'll have the inspire in another week! So Excited!

Just wanted to point out just because something is a great seller doesn't make it a great product. For instance.. the McDonalds cheeseburger... I wouldn't call that great by any means LOL!

The iDevices did one thing and one thing only that benefited us. It brought smartphones/devices into the mainstream which spurred a cycle of vigorous innovation.
