New to droid, a couple questions

First I'd like to say "Hey" I'm new here and just bought my first android phone from sprint. I was thinking of rooting my phone and have read the stickies on the forum. But I have a couple questions before I take the plunge.

1) Will the phone operate and look the same as it did before rooting?

2) Are there any issues with gps or any other quirks I should know?

3) Besides the fresh 1.1 what else is necessary or recommended?

4) Any other info?

If you have links to answer any of these that's fine, naturally I am a bit hesitant given that I just purchased the phone yesterday, and absolutely love it, but it sounds like I might want to marry it if were rooted.

Thanks in advance,

-Karl-

Welcome to the forums.

1. After rooting yes, it will be the same ROM. When you change ROMs it still will, it will probably look a tad different but basically be the same thing.

2. Each ROM has its own quirks, so it depends which ROM you decide on. So far the best one for me has been Fresh. The flash in browser didnt work, but they released a easy fix for it.

3. If you follow the directions you will notice you need to backup your device. Do this as much as possible before and after rooting. That way you can always revert back to a particular spot in your tinkering.

4. Research, read, and have fun. Enjoy!

Hey Karl, welcome...

1st. absolutly the same,, only diffrence is the unlock slidebar-- it becomes transparent with the date and time in white letters,, and your taskbar will modify slighty

2. Dunno about that one

3. A Gumbo Kernel flash and setCPU,, each take abt 2 mins maxx and the diffrence is amazing.

4. Enjoy the heck out of your new hotrod!
