Complete utter noob about phones, never bothered to change anything on my phones before.
Very good with computers, and i'm sure I can learn without problems.
I'm looking to root my triumph and install CM7 on it.
Is there a step by step guide of what I should be doing? I've found the root guide here
http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/385385-motorola-triumph-root-guide-9-26-2011-a.html
but it lists a bunch of links to different things, but i'm not sure which i should be using in, what i should be doing with them, and in what order etc.

Seems like this guide would be around somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. Any help?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, first that is not the ROOTING guide, that is the ROOT guide, meaning it the a guide/index to all development for the triumph. Simplest way to root is, gingerbreak V1.2, you can find on xda, google it. Just download it, put on phone sd card if you downloaded via computer/laptop, download easy installer(blue box icon) on market, easy installer will list all apk's(apps) downloadable on your sd card, check gingerbreak, install, open gingerbreak, click root option, it will reboot your phone one or two times, and then your rooted.
I advise you to keep app install if you want to unroot the easiest way on the triumph.

okay, just rooted phone. and now i need to install NANDROID and make a backup? and then in the instructions it says to boot to clockwork, is that something i need to install or is that already in the phone or something that comes with the cm7 file that i need to put on the phone after?

ok a nandroid is just a backup... after you put clock work mod recovery on your phone you make one, so if you mess up your phone you can go back to the last condition it was in.

use this clockworkmod- newest clockworkmod recovery

(keymapping: "menu=select","back=go back","volume up/down=scroll")

heres a video for clockworkmod: applying clockworkmod recovery

im gonna be off for the night but i will walk you through making a nandroid backup and installing cm7 tomorrow if someone else doesnt swing by and assist you. :D

thank you for the help so far. just got clockwork installed and booted into it and am doing a backup now. took a few min to figure out because i thought the power button made a selection and it changed into the clockwork icon with nothing else on the screen. couldn't figure out if it was backuping up and i should wait or what.. pressed power again and it went back to menu and figured out menu was the select button.
so after this backups ,i'll put a copy on my desktop and then i can go ahead and put the cm7 file on my phone and point clockwork at it and i'm good to go? anything else i should do before hand?
thanks again.

edit: do i want to "apply update from sdcard" or "install zip from sdcard"?

DO NOT USE THE CWM DOWNLOAD FROM THE VIDEO, use this one recovery-cwm-4.0.1.5-triumph.zip
Also use the CM7 by tickerguy, the one by isacc has been discontinued.
As long as it worked does it matter if i used a different recovery? I think i used the one posted by ziggy46, the file size is a little bit different so i'm pretty sure its not the exact same one.

Hey, thanks for the guide guys. NewUser0: Let me know how it goes. I want to install CM7 this weekend as well, and I'm also a bit of a noob.
Worked well, i plan on writing up a quick step by step guide for others who have never touched any of this before and doesn't know some of the terminology.

As long as it works, it works.

The recent (9/25) flashes of my CM7 port are all using ext4 on the phone for better performance; if your Clockwork will flash that it should also flash subsequent ones without trouble. The issue is that many older ones did not include support for that filesystem in the kernel that's embedded in the recovery, and without that the file will not install.

Didn't notice the link to the new cwm, I was just saying to use the newest cwm because the old doesn't have support for everything currently being used/created today for the triumph development and plus the the old have extra options and some of these options will mess up your phone.

yea i knew what you meant man :D i just noticed the new link like 3 days ago
