Root Need instructions change ROM, HELP!!!

"Better layout and get more control of ur phone", you mean new Rom it is absolutely new system? Or its just upgrade old system? Ok man I'm ready for you instructions! :)

A new rom is a mostly new system. the CM7 roms are based off android 2.3.5.

Your already on 2.2.1 so you will just need to run gingerbreak to root.

Then I would suggest signing up at XDA developers and searching there for FlashImageGUI, open said program, set to flash recovery and use this file as your recovery:http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?aakz6aupmxbxyk0

Once you get to this point power off the phone and hold home, voldn, and power until it boots into recovery. From here choose backup, make a complete backup with no ext, then save your ENTIRE SD card to PC before continuing.

This can be done by toggling USB MS in recovery.

Next you will want to partition your sd card, find the menu in recovery, choose 0mb for swap and 512 for ext, once this is finished, find the option and convert ext2 to ext3.

Now you can move your SD card backup back to the phone from the PC.

At this point you have a rooted stock phone with a custom recovery installed and a backup of everything.

All thats left is choosing a rom and booting to recovery and installing.

Optionally you could install titanium backup also and back your apps up, but I would recommend not doing that until you are running a CM7 rom. It can lead to problem if you restore the wrong stuff from a stock to a custom rom.

Alot more features. CM7 has a whole set of settings in the settings area. You can overclock. IT comes already rooted. Has Gingerbread (2.3.5) (not sure the number but its not 2.2.1. Also, by gingerbread is way better....the keyboard and the multitasking. (just found out if you hold the Home button, it'll switch apps lol)

ALSO, you can start making backups and never worry again. Once you flash a new rom, just restore the data backup. And your good to go. New rom same apps, contacts, ect.

Good luck.

Here is flashimagegui, you just rename the zip file apk and install it like any other app:
[APP] Flash Image GUI - xda-developers

As for your other ques. You needed to DL that .img file then put it on root of sd card, then open flashimage select flash recovery, and browse to the .img file and choose it.

If it finished with no errors it should be good.

Power down the phone, then press and hold home, voldn, and power until recovery menu pops up.

Once in recovery you can make a backup of your system and then back your sd card up to pc.

STEP 1: ROOT PHONE WITH GINGERBREAK.APK

STEP 2: Get titanium backup to backup all ur apps if u dont care proceed to next step.

STEP 3: GET CUSTOM RECOVERY
There are different custom recoverys joniedy, GNM, and CWM from playfulgods. U'll need a flash_image and recovery.img. put those on root of ur SD card. Then register with sdx developers to get flash image GUI by joeykim. After u got flash image GUI installed click recovery and browse for ur recovery image not ur flash_image.

STEP 4: GET NEW ROM
There are 4 roms I know of right now. Playfulgods cm7.2, bobzhome cm7, joniedys sense rom, teamchicken eater. Reppards cm7.1 rom. Pick which u prefer. After u pick what rom u want download it place it in the folder /sdcard/android/urzipfile.zip

STEP 5: RECOVERY MENU
Reboot into custom recovery menu. Press HOME+VOLDOWN+POWER BUTTON. RELEASE POWER BUTTON AND HOLD THE VOLDOWN+HONE UNTIL THE LIGHTS TURN ON. THEN LET GO. U will want to first backup ur files. Look for backup and restore.

STEP 6: WIPE SETTINGS
WIPE DALVIK CACHE
WIPE ALL USER DATA/FACTORY RESET
WIPE CACHE
WIPE ANDROID SECURE
WIPE BATTERY STATS
WIPE ROTATE STATS

STEP 7: TIME TO INSTALL
Now go to install zip from SD card. Disable verication notice. Go to android folder click the rom u put on ur SD card and wait for it to be done installing. And first boot up usually takes awhile.
