The LG ESTEEM is out now.... Who's switching???

Not a big enough upgrade to justify shelling out more dough to Metro. Seriously this phone is only marginally better than the optimus.

I'd rather donate to the guys that make our current phone better, than donate to the guys trying to sell me a 200 dollar cpu upgrade for a 20 dollar cpu...

OK... It IS only marginally better to me. And 4g? Please. Metros entire 4g network in my state is smaller than most school districts.

So yeah the only upgrade for 90% of my state is ability to play flash video. 350 bux is too much to pay to be able to play a 3 inch flash video.

.

Sorry to hear that but in my state 4g is everywhere (99% of all places where I go in a daily basis)

It's way better. Be able to play games in higher FPS. Be able to multitask better, and the screen is much bigger. (easier for typing) The 350 is a little high, but im looking foward for the 100 rebate also.

I might just wait until its rooted and possiblity CM7 and CMW is ported to it. Until then.... im extremely happy.

I personally love my optimus m. I can talk the head off of a horse with this thing and still listen to music without the need of my charger. A little research and a few build.prop changes go a long way!

Wifi scan interval changed to 180
Max events increased to 320
Brightness set to auto (hint: the proximity sensor can detect changes in light level if your screen protector isn't covering it)
And I combined all that with an automatic task killer that murders background processes.

I'd rather stay happy, rooted, and not broke thanks to yet another metro tease. BTW flash works very well with the right kernel and a little patience :)

I'm definitely upgrading. People are downplaying the difference in specs but, with almost twice the processor speed, ram, official gingerbread (not a mish-mash of gingerbread features with a froyo base), bigger screen, hdmi out, dlna support, LTE, real flash support. When this bad boy gets rooted, rom'd, and oc'd it will be a f*ckn BEAST! Don't get me wrong I've enjoyed my Optimus and it was my first smartphone but, I've had it almost a year now and I think we've pushed it as far as it will go. It has served me well but, this is definitely an upgrade worth making, at least for me. I'm just waiting for the MIR to go into effect.
Just my $.02.

How did you change brightness to auto? And by flash works very well do you mean you have flash video function as well? Mine works but the screen it all green artifacts...

I guess it a decent phone, the LTE part turns me off. First off Metro calling the speeds they restrict their LTE network to is hardly "4g", plus the LTE network in Michigan only works in one area that I try at all costs to avoid.

Besides that if I'm gonna pay that much a month and that much for a phone I would just go back to Sprint. The price for Metro's really, really limited 4g network is way too close to the price of Sprint's real unlimited data plan to make it justifiable. Plus I can buy a used Sprint phone with the same specs for less than half the price craigslist.

The ONLY reason I can see for people to use Metro is cuz it's cheap (it's the only reason I'm on it) and the 4g plan just isn't far enough from the competition (who has way better shit).

A couple points:
First, I agree with you on the 4g part which is why I said 'lte' and not 4g also, I'm in the Bay Area so we have pretty good coverage and even with the capped speeds it will murder what I get now. On a side note: for phone use I really don't see the need for anything over 5-8mbs tbh.
Second, I paid $230 for my Optimus when it came out so it's not that much more after the rebate.
Third, Sprint is the only other company that is close price wise and I've had some bad experiences with them trying to deal with my father's service. Long story short, F*ck Sprint.
And last, like I said, that was just my opinion. And while I respect your position on the matter, its still worth it to me. For $55 a month on my family plan its the cheapest unlimited everything plan for my situation.

^^yep^^ + bigger screen. But would wait for rebate and when it can be custom rom'd. Also hoping by mid-next year price may come down some.

It may well be worth it in LTE land wherever the hell that is, I don't even travel to an LTE zone on a 6 month basis. Personally right now I'm getting sick of paying 45 bux a month for 1x, and all the bad sprint ever did to me does not equal giving me an android smart-phone on 1x data(WTF did I do to deserve this? LOL). Right now I wish I had my old Samsung dumb-phone in real evdo speed. It played fluid streaming video, pandora worked flawlessly with out 30 seconds of buffer between songs, it even took great pics. Only thing my android has on it is the ability to view full web pages, and at 1x speed I'd rather see the mobile version...

Metro just sucks where I live. No LTE, No ability to flash phones, No 3g and I have to sit on my porch to make a phone call, and I live in an effing city not out in farm land.

And WOW @ the 230 for an optimus. That is outrageous. If you paid that much for one I can see how you would have little hesitation for the esteem for 250. I picked up 2 of them like new off craigslist for 175 in May, You always pay a huge premium to be the first on the bandwagon...

Yeah, early adopters always get stung in some way. I'm not really complaining though. Some people pay way more than that to go to school to learn some of the shit I've learned for the 10-11 months I've had this phone on this site alone. And I feel you on the coverage, I've been with metro for a while and I remember having to walk two blocks away from my house to get a signal lol. But, the lte overlay should be complete by the end of the year (at least thats what I've heard.)
Oh yeah, I just got 3g yesterday. Haven't done any speed tests yet but, just from using it I can tell it's way faster than the 1x I've been putting up with all this time!

Agreed, the money I spent on this phone was well worth the Android education, LOL. The only other smart-phone experience I had before this was constantly helping a less tech oriented friend to do anything on his WM6 phone and hearing horror stories from a developer friend about the Pre.

I used to think Sprints coverage sucked, heh, I would be out on the disc golf course with friends on Verizon who had internet and I was stuck on roam, my Metro phone still doesn't get signal there even with the new roaming agreements, LOL

I got the 3g symbol a few times here forcing my phone to evdo, have yet to send or receive 1 byte of data over it...

Well the way I see it it is worth the upgrade, just not right away in my opinion. When it's rootable and I can have the same features and tweaks I have on my M then I will make the switch.

For me the price even with the MIR is just not worth the investment right now. I'm not one to have to be first to have the "latest and greatest" tech, not that big a deal to me.

Well it seems that it may not be that long before they can get this rooted and modded. Some developers from the LG Revolution are already intrested it it migh be possible to port over most of the mods already existing on the Revolution. So in my opinion buying it in the next month doesn't seem like a bad idea.

The LG Esteem is actually set at a really good price, especially when compared to the Indulge.
