Root unrooting = suicidal batteries?

Ever since i unrooted my evo i have had 2 batteries commit suicide and become 100% unresponsive. Is this a freak accident or is something wrong?

were they brand new batteries?? the only way i could see if the batteries just absolutely took a crap is if they were used with an SBC Kernel, and then there might actually be truth behind what an SBC can do to a battery...BUT....im leaning more torwards it being a freak accident...

I'd have to say a near impossibility for this to re-occur. From my understanding, SBC kernels are bad for batteries, but it would take something like 3+ years or so for the battery to start to be negatively impacted by the kernel. Maybe someone is plotting against you?

I don't believe the 3+ years....


Normal batteries go way downhill long before that.

But that isn't impact by the kernel. There was quite a debate a while back, and that is what was said. That the sbc kernel would start to negatively impact the battery years away from the present.

I don't know if anyone knows if it is a true statement. Scientists might, but as I'm not a scientist, I'll have to take the word of those who made the claim.

You are right though, theres probably no way to tell the difference between kernel and normal wear.

I don't know where you got the batteries to begin with and only mention that fact because recently I was looking for a replacement battery for my Moment.
There were some advertised for like 5 bucks apiece. The reviews on them were all over the place and the story seemed to be that they were some kind of 'seconds', defective in some way and didn't make the cut. That is why they were so cheap. some people got them and were lucky, others went through 3 or 4 before they got a good one.

Don't know if that applies.

Otherwise, I sure do suspect the charger though. Not sure how you could check it though. Seems like if it was overcharging, your batteries would get noticeably hot.

I have read some folk who claim to know what they are writing about say that actually fulling discharging batteries was not a good thing. That might have been laptop batteries though. That being said, I read where one idea was to freeze a laptop battery to get more use out of it. don't know if that really works or where I read it, but I'd study up on it before I tried it.

let me know if you try it and it works. If it blows up or something, let me know that too.

I have already tried that and its a negative on making it work. And i got the battery from the guy at the sprint store who picked it up off the floor and sold it to me for $30... But im gonna not plug it into the wall charger which i have for my rumor. It worked for my rumor but at the same time both batteries did die on that charger...

How old r these batteries? I would suspect either the charger (I have had 2 go bad on me, as in, they just wont charge at all) or just the end of their usable lives, due to age... I wouldnt expect one of these to last much over a year, year and half.... anything beyond that is bonus....

Try plugging in to ur pc, and see if that helps.

Im not sure how old either of these batteries are. But the charger ive been using still works for my rumor touch. So i dont know if the specs are different enough to blow the batteries. But im no longer going to use my rumor touch chargers.

yeah i bought a rocketfish universal charger for my evo and i think that it damaged my battery. it would get like super hot and it would discharge very rapidly.

Since i got my phone kind of working now but it takes sooo long to boot up. Would it just be worth it to re root it? Now that i have it activated?

i love that my phone is rooted. it allows you more freedom to do what you want to your phone. and it also allows more options to trouble shoot then an unrooted phone. right now you can try a soft reset(rebooting the phone) or a hard reset(which erases all data) or you can take in to sprint and see if they can fix it. so that is up to you. me personally i would root it.

I have tried all of those things. I would prefer to not have it rooted. But the 5 minute boot up time is rather annoying. If rooting would make it boot up faster like it did before i unrooted it, ill just root it again.
