best android phone

Hi

I'm new to android, so please pardon my ignorance.But, What is the best android device currently available or that will be available within the next three months? Right now, the Nexus One seems to be the best. However, the one from Acer is pretty good too. And from what I read, the X10 from Sony will also be cool... Any others? And of these three, which is the best? Thanks for you help

it's all a bit subjective, but i imagine most would agree that the nexus one is "the best" atm

personally, i much prefer the looks of the acer liquid, so if i was buying now, it'd be a tough choice between the two

the liquid's snapdragon processor is underclocked to 7XX MHz (can't remember the exact frequency), while the nexus runs at a full 1 GHz - this doesn't necessarily mean the liquid is worse off, since that lower clockspeed means potentially better battery life

acer being new in the android market and the nexus being "the google phone" means most people would agree that the chance of not getting new android version updates in the future is a lot higher for the liquid than the nexus

of course there are also those people that can't live without a physical keyboard, to whom the droid is easily the best android out atm

drop the sense ui and the nexus is it - also i guess it could be possible to get the sense ui on the nexus with some tinkering (?)

Ok, I probably should have clarified myself much better from the beginning.

First, I am planning to switch from an iPhone 3GS. The thing I love most about the iPhone over previous WinMo phones I've had is the responsiveness of the UI. I dread a slow or lagging interface. So, UI (including responsiveness and eye candy) is my first priority.

Second, one of my least favorite aspects of the iphone was the mail program. It was, IMHO, pathetic. I am a Gmail user, so the experience on andrioid devices should be a lot better, right?

Third, I have no real need for a physical keyboard. It might be a nice thing to have, so I don't need it at all.

Fourth, I have a very small library of about 20 albums. I love the way in which Apple has handled music on the iPhone OS. Does any andrioid phone come close?

It'd be a nice if the phone had a great camera... not just in terms of resolution, but also the optics.

EDIT: I should mention that I will be buying this phone in HK, so I'd imagine the selection there is a bit better than that in North America

Personally, after playing with most of the Android phones available on the market, I think the Nexus One is the best currently available. But some of the offerings coming from Acer, Dell and HTC look very promising. I would advise waiting a few months to see what happens.

There are also CDMA versions of the N1 in the works for (supposedly) both Sprint and Verizon.

It's definitely smart to wait for things to shake out a little bit right now.

Hmm... it seems we are in the same situation. After furthering reading, the N1 and X10 are the top two phones. As far as I'm concerned, the pros and cons of each are as follows:

N10:
confirmed multi-touch
802.11n
it's by Google (better support, etc)


X10:
better camera
a bit better screen
bit UI, especially MediaScape and TimeScape

because android is a smarter smartphone os than the iphoneos, it's going to strain the processor more (multitasking is by far the most significant difference here), so for an android phone to consistently be as snappy as an iphone, it's gonna need a bit more horsepower

i've only got experiences with cupcake, which has quite a bad gmail app, but i think they've improved it since

i've never handled an iphone, so wouldn't know about the comparison, but i quite like the stock music app on my galaxy, even tho' i've seen a lot of people criticize it - anyway, there's more than one choice in the market, including free ones and with android getting more popular, you can expect them to be more and more polished, as well as new ones popping up

that said, i have heard good things about sony-ericsson's phone cameras

Would the 1ghz snapdragon processors on the n1 and x10 not be enough to handle moderate multitasking and responsive UI? And would the 256MB ram on the xperia x10 compared to the 512MB nexus one be a significant disadvantage (i.e. would I notice lag in the UI)?

And how are the syninc functions of the Android OS? I use Gmail and a Mac. Will the integration be as tight as the iPhone? Thanks

hmm. Thanks for the info. It seems that the X10 is right phone for me then. Any ideas on its release date in HK/Macau? Thanks

EDIT: any does anyone know if multitouch/android 2.1 is coming to the x10 anytime soon?

no idea on either, tho' one big selling point for the nexus (for me at least) is the "google phone" status it has - that means it's imo much more likely to be kept up to date than any of the competition, plus it's made by htc, which has a pretty good track record of customer support for android phones by what i've heard

There's never going to be one "best," because peoples' needs and preferences vary so widely. But for me it's all about quality industrial design, and in that realm the phones made by HTC absolutely rule.

it's just speculation - the nexus seems more likely to be well updated because of it's status, but it's not set in stone
