3 Known Issues Verizon and Motorola gave no time frame on fixing

The first issue is with Skype. You can not use the video feature. If you search the forums there is a way to download it from a certain site and then upload into your phone but when I went to do this my virus protection warned me of the site that has this so called "fix." Again, not saying there is anything wrong with the site, just saying what happened.

Second, if you use the app "Save To SD Card" many of the apps you save on your SD Card will disappear. You can see the files still are there if you go into setting, apps, manage apps, media area...but if you try to move them to the phone it will say the file is not found.

Third, let's say you type the word "paint" in the Marketplace. It will show you 2762 results on the first screen, however when you actually click to see all these apps you can only view about 200 or so. There is no "see more results" button at the bottom. There is nothing in the menu button if you press that, and you can not scrollany further down, left or right.

I spoke to Verizon and Motorola about all three of these issues and they are aware of all three. However, I was told they are not sure when all three will be fixed. They couldn't give me even a "round about" time frame.

So....are you going to return your phone? Having come from a Storm 2, I'm quite happy with my Bionic, despite the issues with whine in the headphone output (which I have a solution for). I never use Skype, not concerned about issues with Market that you mentioned, and never save apps to SD card. As you can see, we all have our own particular ways of using a phone. For some, one model is awful, and for others it's great.

No, I actually like the phone. The bottom line is no matter what phone comes out, none of them will be perfect. One will always have one or two features that are better then the competition and they will have one or two that lack in comparison. Within less then a few months, the next generation phones will have quad core processors.

I have noticed two of these issues, myself. The (save to sd) and the (market) issue are both very frustrating!

On a side note, I am glad that you posted here, and thought that your first post was relevant.

Yeah, I am sure eventually they will fix everything. Just the nature of the beast. They don't know about issues until customers start complaining about the problems they are encountering.

The market issue shows up on my original Droid. It's a problem with the Market app; not the Bionic.

My original Droid doesn't have the save to SD card issue, thankfully.

My Bionic arrives tomorrow, so I haven't had a chance to be disappointed by the lack of video Skype yet.

Tango is working better for us then google talk. Skype is a non issue for me

1. It's Skype's developers problems, not that of Motorola or Verizon.

2. This is because Motorola has changed partitioning/mounting, so that the SD card is now /sdcard-ext, and the internal is /sdcard, versus /sdcard for the SD, and /sdcard-int for internal. Most likely Android and its apps have been hardcoded with different mount points, leading to bugs like these.

3. No clue on that one. But I mostly use the online version, bypassing that whole conundrum.

Well (1), (3) in the OP are definitely not a Bionic issue. (2) maybe but I don't think it is a problem at all.

The only thing that could be an issue is this high-pitched whine people talk about. But so far for me it lasts 2 seconds when the lock screen comes on and off, and hasn't even been an issue that would frustrate me. The only things I really have had problems with is my utter hate of bloatware but that is to be expected. This still is the most amazing device I have owned up to this point. I am so.... glad I didn't wait. ;-)

I'm on my second bionic because I was getting crazy signal drops, VZW thought it might be the SIM, its not, I still get the drops for no reason. So here are a few more issues: 1. frequent and unexpected signal drops. 2. GoogleTalk just shuts down for no reason, probably related to the signal drops. 3. Facebook contacts dont sync. 4. Only paid apps reinstalled on start up.

All of these issues have been thoroughly researched and dont seem to have an answer or fix that works from verizon or motorola.

And yes, this was my 1st post on this site also.

I had an annoying problem on my Droid X and even more annoying on the Bionic. For lack of a better term "one way conversation" ... when I started to talk th receiving signal simply was cut off. This is a great feature for a control freak who wants to annoy everyone he talks to.

When I turned EVRC-B on this problem was solved and two-way communcations (like a land line) started happening. Everything about phone conversations is now noticably better.

I wonder if it might be the soluytion to his signal drop out problems.

curious. the reference to EVRC-B is a hack, back in 2009. is that really pertinent and useful in 2011, on a Bionic??

I'm not sure what your reference to "hack" is. I found out about this network option earlier this week in a Gingerbread discussion.

The Bionic defaults to EVRC and the EVRC-B option can be turrned on using the "hidden" menu.

The disaddvantag in Gingerbread is that the optioon is reset to EVRC each time you power off/power on and EVRC-B must be selected again. (Thhis was apparenbtly not the case before Gingerbread.)

The improvement in call auality for me is very noticable. I don't know it will be for everyone.

I was suggesting that he try it and see if it helps. If it did then it might demonstrate that the issue was outside of his phone.

Choosing to continue using it or not is a separate issue. I have chosen to do so.

Thom, I've no idea where this hidden menu is. care to share?

FWIW, my previous post wasn't arguing with you--I am simply not aware of this option and like I said the only thing I found for that term was a hack, in 2009. I'm all for whatever works.

I was surprised when I learned about it. Verizon apparently sets the default to EVRC and you can set it at EVRC-B to get better coverage. Some people think it increases battery drain. I have sen nothing definative about it.

Use the "hidden menu" to set it in Gingerbread ...
Select Phone
Select Dialer
Type in ##program and hit the connect key
When the display comes up type in 000000 and hit the Verify key
Wehn the menu comes up select 06 Test Mode
When the Test section comes up hit the Next button at the bottom of the screen twice
Select the Service option at the top of the screen (it currently says EVRC)
Choose the EVRC-B option
Hit the Home button

You now have it set until the next time you power off/power on. (Apparently earlier vrersions of Android allowed you to set it once and it was retained.)

I have not diddled with any of the other options on any of these "hidden menu" screens,

This single option seems to be "a keeper",

I don;t know what this does to anyone's phone. All I can tell you is that it is how I am currently running.

WHOA!!! I did that and my signal strength went from it's usual 1 bar in my home office to FULL BARS! I suspect it will be a battery killer, eh? :) I'll keep everyone posted on how the phone calls and reception goes...

I have detected no increased battery drain. That is only one data point. I look forward to hearing about your expeience.

When talking to my sister in NC (she's on a land line) the difference between the two modes is astonishing EVRC was annoying ... EVRC-B was simply "the way a phone should sound".

... Thom

I couldn't detect any call quality difference on the one call I made. Also the four bars went back to one. I need more time to evaluate the efficacy of the tweak.
