whats funny is people after knowing how bad LG makes fones for metro, are willing to "upgrade"
if upgrading your fone to new bugs, new glitches and new crap, id say its a downgrade

LG does not make bad phones for Metro. LG makes bad phones. They make better phones than say, Kyocera, but lets face it LG = Low Grade. Never seen an LG with the build quality of even a cheap Samsung.

It may well be worth it in LTE land wherever the hell that is, I don't even travel to an LTE zone on a 6 month basis. Personally right now I'm getting sick of paying 45 bux a month for 1x, and all the bad sprint ever did to me does not equal giving me an android smart-phone on 1x data(WTF did I do to deserve this? LOL). Right now I wish I had my old Samsung dumb-phone in real evdo speed. It played fluid streaming video, pandora worked flawlessly with out 30 seconds of buffer between songs, it even took great pics. Only thing my android has on it is the ability to view full web pages, and at 1x speed I'd rather see the mobile version...

Metro just sucks where I live. No LTE, No ability to flash phones, No 3g and I have to sit on my porch to make a phone call, and I live in an effing city not out in farm land.

And WOW @ the 230 for an optimus. That is outrageous. If you paid that much for one I can see how you would have little hesitation for the esteem for 250. I picked up 2 of them like new off craigslist for 175 in May, You always pay a huge premium to be the first on the bandwagon...

I understand your frustration w the 1x, hopefully they'll have your area up to 3G soon or at least before year end. Earlier knew that's what you were referring to, your area still only being @ 1x.

This is the first LG phone I've ever had so my opinion may be limited in that respect but, I have had no problems or issues with this phone at all. I've heard horror stories about every company out there.

I just read the metro phone only has 4gb, the verizon one has 8gb, both have 512 of ram

This is the first LG phone I've ever had so my opinion may be limited in that respect but, I have had no problems or issues with this phone at all. I've heard horror stories about every company out there.

I have never had a poorly made Samsung, I have had some cheaper ones with not so great features, but the build quality is always superb. I have owned phones from Samsung, Toshiba/audiovox, Kyocera, Quallcom, Sanyo, LG and Motorola. I would put Kyocera and Toshiba Tied for worst followed by LG and then Sanyo. I consider Moto and Samsung about the same in the top tier. I'm only talking build quality though, LG seems to be near the top if you are only considering features vs. cost...

Explain what you mean by LG = low grade - the whole phone overall? Thinking of the Samsung Admire, IMO, the outer casing doesn't feel as sturdy as the LG Opt M. Also asking cus have dropped my LG Opt M about 4xs in last 2 weeks. Tho it's still working pretty good (good ole Optimus M - gotta love it) am hoping that didnt cause any damage. And apologies if this is wrong thread to ask, but figured since it was already being discussed --and might end up having to buy LG Esteem or the Samsung Admire.

Go to the lg eteem fourm on here. To learn more...... Alredy showes to be rooted with gingerbrake 1.2 . Here in FL the majority of metro's area has the lte. Wehn the rebate kicks in I will most likely upgrade. I have xl sized hands and the larger screen will help me a lot. Also btw Sprints unlimited is moble to moble not land line 79.95 and U pay the taxes on top of that. I love my flat 45.00per line no mater what. I have had the 400.00-700.00 a month overage charge from all the top 4 cell providers. We switched in 08 and I have never looked back. I had a friend 4 months ago get hit with a 1500.00 bill from the big V the #1 provider in the country. I do not have a want or need to ever pay a bill like that. He is now on ATT....

lol, just saying it is low grade in general. There might be a better LG phone than a certain Samsung... Compare other things tho, like go compare their refrigerators with the competition, or their TVs. They seem cheap to me...

The unlimited LTE plan is 60, so you are only saving 20 bucks over Sprint. In some areas with better LTE coverage it might be worth it.

Battery life appears to be horrible on the esteem, that kinda sucks, coming from a dumb phone the battery life on my Optimus is barely acceptable. I can't imagine living with less.

I would never suggest someone buy a Metro LTE phone, not because the phones suck, but because of Metros practice of calling speeds I got in 2008 with a dumbphone "4g".

Metro has too many shady practices like that. Like "buy any phone get any phone free", then in teeny tiny fine ass print it says buy any phone get a "qualifying" phone free, and a quick check of the "qualifying" phones results in a half-dozen fischer-price models...

Or the service maps, I think they make them by using the maximum theoretical transmit distance of their towers, instead of the real life distance they actually cover.

If someone shows the Esteem can be rooted SUCCESSFULLY I'll bite. When I left my Optimus on overnight (6 1/2 hours) the battery was down to 75% without rooting. I can only imagine what the Esteem battery life would be like without being rooted and cleaned.

Read about battery life on the revolution, it's the same phone.

Personally I think all these thin flat ass phones could use some more juice. Back in the day we didn't have a problem talking on a 5 pound brick. Now our phones must be as thin as paper to ensure the battery can't last all day.

I remember when cellphones would last a week or more on a charge, and that was when I was a kid and spent all day on the phone.

Were talking 4-5 hours of heavy use with this phone. I can't even believe that is acceptable....

Yeah I hear you, while it's great to not be carrying around a brick it's amazing to me that the size can be shrunken down to nothing but someone can't come up with a more powerful shrunken battery?

I understand everything has limitations but are they really at the point where small battery life is at it's full potential?

As I said, I'm waiting this upgrade out for now but will be keeping a close watch on the dev's for this phone so when I do make the switch everything will be worked out and a lot of options will be available.

If you're a MetroPCS fan and are eyeing the LG Esteem that we first showed you yesterday, here's a quick look at the extended battery cover that will be available at launch. No word on the exact capacity of the battery, but that hump is reminiscient of the HTC ThunderBolt's extended battery, and we'd reckon it's probably in the 2500 mAh range (at least).

Yeah too bad I've yet to see a rubberized case for a phone with an extended battery. Extended battery = more weight for the phone to break itself with when I drop it.

I'm tempted to get the extended for the optimus, but a lack of proper case has stopped me.
