Apple thinks Samsung has copied Apple's designs. Samsung doesn't think so. Apple also thinks the sky is blue. Samsung...okay, I'm kidding. I guess there could be some coinkydink going on between the two companies but um, it doesn't look good for Samsung.

A Reddit user put together these images and there's probably more to the list that wasn't added in (TouchWiz 3.0?) that could be. You can find his full image here (or the last picture in the gallery). How can Samsung be so shameless about this stuff? [Reddit via Daring Fireball via TUAW].

Samsung Has Like Totally Never Ever Copied Apple

Looks kinda close, to me.

So everything Apple came up with is original.? Go look at a TV box, blu-ray box, microwave box and fridges. You name it, they will be similarities all alike. Even apple head designer take his ideas from someone else.If anyone act like apple has never totally copied others, you living in fantasy land.

Seems like Apple is doing whatever it can, to run the competition out of town.

I hate when people just look at the IPhone and jump ship saying they pretty much created how cell phone are made, I admit when it came out it was nice when I had it but after being restricted I decided to leave. Only thing I can say what Apple is doing is being afraid of the success of Android, competition was really there until Android took off.

I discovered from Phandroid comments many citations clearly showing that the look and feel components that Apple claimed Samsung copied actually appeared first on a much earlier LG phone.

In tech patent and intellectual property wars things are rarely what they seem, and the last shoe is likely to be far from ready to drop on this issue any time soon. ;)

Beat me to it! As for the design of the iPad.. well check out this HP Tablet made in 2003 A full 7 years before the iPad.

It features a detachable keyboard, much like my ASUS transformer.

HP Compaq TC1000 - YouTube

It even won quite a few design awards.... who copied who??

While the Apple / Samsung show continues to gain press and impact trade, the case I'm interested in is the Apple patent attack on HTC for the app association with data implementation.

The interesting thing there is that that particular patent was already under attack by Motorola as part of their non-patented prior art (prior art can invalidate a patent for those unfamiliar). And HTC knew that, but still offered to settle with Apple.

And then, Google became the owner of that - and reports on that have dried up over the Samsung razzmatazz.

The real stories on what is actually going on, and what the end game of these battles will be is not likely to come to light for some months, I think.

As for representing Samsung in court, no thanks - I wouldn't want to incriminate myself. ;) :D

Even though they weren't true touch screens, Palm PDAs looked about the same. My 650 looks like a phone when it's off.
They had wifi, either built in or on a card, you could buy a keyboard for some, and they had the rocker switch which actually did something. Worked like the arrow keys.

And they were easy to sync. You just downloaded Palm Desktop, plugged in, and no problems. Even if you had a memory card or stick in there.

Apple tried the Newton and it bombed.

If Samsung's guilty, fine, they're guilty.

What I'm not liking is the judges making up new laws. The judge in Germany decided against his staff's recommendations when he tried throwing an EU ban on Sammy tablets and another judge came out and said that in his opinion, Samsung had the choice to present things with different buttons, so they copied Apple.

The only way to get things more screwed up that the judicial making software decisions would be to leave legal decisions up to software types.

Wait - I'm think I'm ready to design a UI to replace judge and jury on these cases! What could possibly go wrong!

And if that isn't a clear indictment about over-reaching judges, then I can't do better.

Similar, yes. Copied, maybe. But for someone to have a patent on a box or geometric shape, it's time for Scotty to fire up the transporter.

Microsoft 'Trial by Jury' v.1.0

or Apple iJury

I don't know which is scarier!

The incredible irony of all of this is that now Apple is copying Android with features that Android has had for a long time. Bigger screens, the notification bar, hell they'll probably roll out widgets in the next big version of iOS. They'll call them Wombits or something stupid like that.

I would walk into an Apple store just for pure entertainment reasons. Listening to customers ask the "geniuses" at the genius bar about how they can't get their wombits to work. And I would record it in 3D video and upload it by 4G, because the iPhone won't be able to do either :p

Even though Im an Android user the truth is that in a way everyone has copied Apple. Apple made iPods so everyone else made their own mp3 players. Apple made iPhones so now we all have our own version of touch screen phones. Apple made iPads so now we have Tablets and what not. I hate to admit it but Apple does make things first then everyone else copies the idea. I know..... Im awful to say, but its true.

I just think its stupid and I never have liked the way that Apple has ever handled how they did business. I hope Apple loses there darn shirts with this lawsuit. Think about this one and I am SURE this one will raise some eyebrows but its true. Some of the most top of the line TVs that Sony sticks there name on right now is made and manufactured by Samsung. Just like Ford owning Mazda. Only thing different about a Mazda B-4000 to A Ford Ranger is Ford makes there own Six cylinder engine that they put into it. So what is my rant here its simply this: Apple NEVER conforms to the new ways of how and where technology is going today. They always want to create something way out in left field. They never want to help create better ways of doing things they always have to complicate things.
This is the main reason why I have done my absaloute best to NOT support Apple in anything they have done. When Apple first came out with there Ipods I went out and bought a sony mini disc player instead of one of there Ipods along with there complicated I-Tunes crap. They are so leftish its time we all stomped them out big time.

Nokia released touch screen phones before there was an iPod look for 7710, then you have the SE P900 series. Tablets existed 7 years before the iPad. If we're talking about firsts, Apple aint on that list.

Mp3 players also existed before iPods. You seem to be part of the generation that Apple has brain washed.
