Help Ring/Vibrate/Notification options

I just finally kicked the Crackberry habit for this phone but I'm really missing a few BB features that were standard. Previously, I had my phone set up to to vibrate three times for a text message, then play a notification sound and vibrate 2 times for a phone call, then start ringing. It was nice to be able to have the time to silence it first when it started vibrating and I'd know right away if it was a text or call.

I've spent a long time tinkering and looking through the manual, but my Epic 4G Touch seems to not have any options to vibrate first or set the number of vibrations. Does anyone know if there's a way to do it or a decent app that does it? I know Tasker might, but I don't have the time to learn it all right now.

Also, it doesn't seem to tell me I got a text message while I'm on a call. Has anyone else experienced this? Sometimes they don't come in until after a call or if they come in, the phone doesn't beep or vibrate during a call.

Not sure about the call vibration thing, but you can use SMS Popup and customize the specific vibration patterns for SMS and MMS; even for specific contacts... let me know if that helps.

I use Handcent SMS, set up for 5 quick vibrations. Mail vibrates twice, the ringer does a single extended vibration, so I can tell them all apart.

I installed Handcent... not bad and very customizable (although a lot of options seem to be for older phones) but it still doesn't allow the phone to vibrate first before ringing.

Searching the market seems like your best bet. You might be able to set it up using Tasker if you're willing to pay and work to learn how to do it.

EDIT: Looks like https://market.android.com/details?id=com.electricpocket.ringo&feature=search_result can do it (according to a review, didn't see it in the features list on the market)

Yes. Sprint's Galaxy S II is the only one that does, actually. Its located at the top right corner, just above the screen.

Thank you. That's one feature I miss the most with my Nexus S 4G, and it's a little annoying having to turn the phone on every 5 minutes just to see if I have a new email/SMS.

You can also try Lightflow from the Market.
I know the paid version has options to set the vibration pattern for SMS, mail, voice mail, and a couple of others. It will also let you set the notification light color, but you'll only be able to see blue, red, and magenta on the phone.

Can you turn this OFF? I have an Evo 4G and I have gone to Menu, Settings, Display, Notification flash, and have unchecked all of the boxes. But the LED will still flash when I get a new email. Not sure if this is specific to the phone or to Android.

Is anyone else's vibration on the epic touch really loud? when i first got it, it made no noise. then one day i kinda noticed it was really loud and now it is just plain annoying. anyone else have this issue? i have had it for 6 days...

You can adjust the vibration intensity.

Settings>Sounds>Vibration Intensity

Sorry, totally forgot to reply. SMS Popup does work to notify me of an incoming text while on a call. Thanks!!

As far as vibrating first, then ringing, no luck so far. What I've done is just to record a few seconds of silence in front of a ringtone.

I feel a little uncomfortable giving all of these apps access to so many things when you install them, though. I always wonder how many times they're "phoning home" and passing on some data.

Holy crap no! I am missing so many notifications when on vibrate because it is so incredibly soft. I finally gave up my EVO 4G for the Epic Touch. My EVO's vibrate was always two sequential bursts and they were strong. I mean someone sitting next to me could hear the vibrations. Now with the Epic Touch the vibration (and I use the term loosely because it's really more of a mosquito size buzz) it is just one single burst about one third of a second long, and if it is in my case at the time, I usually can't even feel it. There has got to be a way to increase the intensity somehow. And it isn't the Vibration intensity adjustment in Settings>Sound. That is for the haptic vibration felt when pressing softkeys, if you have Haptic feedback turned on. Not for notification vibration intensity.

That adjustment is not for notification vibration intensity, it is for haptic vibrations felt on softkeys.
