HTC Passion News/Discussion

nash you nailed it on the head bro... I totally agree with everything you said.

I just hope VZ gets the sense ui version... I have a sinking feeling we'll see the N1 in March/April and there will still be no news of bravo/incredible.... and that will really blow. Do you really think VZ will release the sense version at the same time the N1 comes out?

I know google's going to be the one selling the N1 not verizon, so we have that going for us, but I'm skeptical about them releasing a nearly "identical" phone at the same time. What do you think?

Here's what I've been thinking MIGHT happen. Sure, the Nexus One is coming to Verizon. We know that, Google knows that and Verizon knows that. However, I don't think Verizon has any plans, or would be expected to, give the N1 ANY priority at all. Sure, it will be working on their network, but from the looks of the sales numbers from the N1, letting it be on Verizon's network is more of a favor to Google than it is to Verizon.

So, what I'm trying to say is that I don't think Verizon is really paying much attention to the N1. It will kinda take care of itself, as Google is the one doing all of the upkeep, if you will, on that phone. With that said, I think Verizon's primary focus is on their internal phone lineup (phones that will be sold subsidized by them.) That leads me to believe, in theory, that they have a great Android phone in the works and that the Nexus One will not have any effect on that phone coming to market whatsoever. Now...do I think they'll release at the same time? No. That would just be silly and it would just piss Google off. I'm sure there is something in the contract for the Nexus One on Verizon that states that it have it's own release time apart from any other phones.

Now...the questions are: Will the Nexus One release first? Because, if it does it will effect the sales of whatever phone Verizon brings out shortly thereafter that is very comparable, but arguably better, than the Nexus One. The other question is: Will the Nexus one come out after Verizon's new HTC Android phone? Because if this happens, then pretty much no one (in my own personal opinion) would want a phone (the Nexus One) that is slightly inferior, in a few key areas, than the phone that was previously released and subsidized through Verizon.

So, I guess the real question is: Who is Verizon looking out for primarily? I'd say they're looking out for #1. So, that's why I'm thinking that Verizon will put their next HTC phone (the Bravo/Incredible?) on the front burner and the Nexus One will be an after thought that will be released afterwards by Google. Sure, the Nexus One will be using Verizon's network, but that's really all that it will be doing. So, I can't see Verizon putting much effort into it at all, if any, and their next big focus will be on their version of the Bravo, which I happen to believe will be called the "Droid Incredible."

Those are my personal standing opinions on what could possibly happen. I, however, have no inside information. Just my personal thoughts. So take them with a huge grain of salt, but at least it's food for thought.

a 4.3" screen is too big for me (no pun intended), that's why i didn't really like the HD2, well that plus windows mobile. it's probably going to be a great phone, but it's just not for me.

In this picture of the HD2, do you really think it looks to big?

htc-hd2.jpg

I don't know - maybe it's just me, but I think this is a good size. I'm currently using the Sprint HTC Hero and the 3.2" screen is just too darn small and that's one of my biggest complaints about the Hero. The main reason I want a new smart phone is so that I can read web pages easily when I'm away from my desk. I haven't tried to compare the actual dimensions, but this phone doesn't look that much bigger than the N1 to me.

This may sound silly, and probably will, but I think it comes down to the kind of pants you wear. This may be the issue that is dividing people and we don't even know it. I wear jeans. Not loose fitting wide-legged jeans, but tight jeans. So, yes, this phone would look HUGE in my hip pocket in the style of jeans I wear. Now...for people who wear a more relaxed fit or people who wear khaki pants or dress pants for work or even for casual, this phone would probably be just fine in their pocket. For me, however, I have a hard enough time being comfortable with my keys and cell phone (currently the LG Dare which isn't very big) in one pocket. If I put a phone the size of the HD2 in my hip pockets, it would look like I had a laptop in my pocket. haha So, that may be some of the confusion here. We all have different styles, and we all wear different kinds of pants. Now, the HD2 would fit in my back pocket, but I just know I'd set down on it and crush it and it would be a shame to ruin something so beautiful.

Nashdroid,

I agree with what you're saying about the N1 coming to Verizon, but before I comment further, let me apologize for stepping on your thread...

The Nexus One is what drew me into this forum in the first place. I still think it's a good phone, but Google needs to get their act together on the customer service end. There are so many negative comments about that part of it, that my desire for N1, when is comes to Verizon, has really cooled.

In Google's defense, I figured a lot of the bad press in the beginning was because so many articles were being written by people who are primarily in the iPhone camp. Every time I read a negative article, I thought screw them. On the other hand, Google is responsible for their own customer service and the way they're handling it right now is awful.

Thank you for the apology, but none was needed. You haven't stepped on anything. Don't even worry about it. We're all just like you; we want to discuss phones and technology. Any discussion related to this mysterious new phone that is rumored to be coming out soon, is welcomed.

Yes, I agree. You stated it perfectly when you said that your desire for the Nexus One has "cooled." Couldn't have said it any better myself. It's not that we don't like it or think it's a bad phone, it's just that our interest in it has cooled. Very well said, and thanks for the insightful thoughts Bill.

If the phone is thin, it probably doesn't matter. I just looked up the specs for the N1 and the HD2 and you might be surprised about the size difference:

Nexus One

Height - 119mm
Width - 59.8mm
Depth - 11.5mm

HTC HD2

Height - 120.5mm
Width - 67mm
Depth - 11mm

So we're only talking 1.5mm difference in height and 7.5mm in width. That's only just over a 1/4" difference in width and a negligible amount in height. I really don't think it would look any bigger in your back pocket. Do you?

If you're only gaining a 1/4 in width and about the same height and thickness, wouldn't your really want the 4.3" screen? When you're using the browser, the bigger the better (at least from my Hero perspective) and when you're using GPS navigation in your car, I think you'll appreciate the larger screen. My 3.2" screen doesn't make it.

Very interesting. You make a very good point. The Nexus One might even be too big in my pocket. haha But yes, I would agree...a 1/4 of an inch doesn't make THAT big of a difference at all, seemingly, but it might when in my pocket. You also haven't seen the jeans I wear. haha

In the end, it will all just come down to trying it in person and putting it in my pocket. I still, honestly, think that the size of the Nexus One is the ABSOLUTE largest that I could pocket. So, even a 1/4 inch bigger would, in fact, be too big. I know that sounds like a stretch and I'm not just trying to further my opinion, I just honestly think that the HD2, though very thin and very similar in size to the Nexus One, would just be tipping the scale on size for me, personally. If you saw the jeans I wear you would understand.

Anyways, yeah, I agree with you. The jeans I wear just make me the exception, I think. I pretty much wear Diesel and Taverniti jeans. So, look them up and you'll see what I'm talking about.

When I had a flip phone, I never put that in my back pocket, as it was way to thick. Because of that, I got used to wearing a belt holster. I have one for my Hero as well, because I'm afraid of sitting on the phone and breaking it, if it were in my back pocket.

Some might see the holster as dorky, but it isn't like wearing a pocket protector.

haha! Yeah, I hear ya. I could never wear a phone holster. But a lot of people do. It would NEVER work with my "look." Just trust me on this one. haha

i saw that when i posted, i almost cried in tears...

as forthe HD2 vs N1 screen thingy that was being debated, i really feel that although the hd2 screen is larger, i feel it is because the phone just uses it's spaces better, the screen goes ALL THE WAY to the edges, left right, top AND bottom, with a THINNNN row for those keys... the n1 has much more room all the way around. i feel screen size does not matter and a 4.3 would be sweet if they could make efficient use of it like the HD2... no wasted plastic space

Man, I hear ya there! Honestly, I don't think there's anything more beautiful than a phone that is pretty much all screen. Ya know? It would be so nice to carry around a phone that is just a screen, pretty much. The HD2 is as close as anyone has gotten so far, I'd have to say. I am loving the trend and I hope this will be the standard before too long. That way the focus will be on software and internals instead of how the external aesthetics of the phone look. Does that make sense? I hate wasted space. Having the screen go right to the edge just looks sexy, sleek and professional to me.

Edit: Covert, are you a Sooner?

4.3" would be nice, but not necessary for me. My min requirement is 3.7" and if it means AMOLED vs. LCD, I'll take the 3.7" screen. On a side note, people have complained about dropping the Nexus One and cracking the screen pretty bad. Not sure if they had a skin on it, probably not. But if that glass screen goes edge-to-edge moreso in the HD2, I'm thinking cracking the screen is a higher risk with this phone.

Also a good point.

By the way Kyler, you know what our next adventure in here is, right? Trying to figure out who Newsradio is now. Oh boy! Something to keep us entertained while we wait for MWC!

I have a feeling his MO will make it pretty obvious. If he's smart, he won't do it because he's practically guaranteed a ban if he does.

My opinion would be to forget about Newsradio. All of the negative comments between him and some of the other forum members is what caused those threads to be closed.

Everyone here is into phones, but come on, they're only phones. The fighting is not worth it and all the negative comments ruin the thread.

Just my opinion,

Bill

I didn't mean PUBLICLY try to figure out what his new identity is. I meant behind the scenes. I created this thread, and I am the last person who wants it to be derailed by a bunch of senseless discussion. I believe it's been going pretty well thus far. It doesn't matter anyways, because we have pretty much all, privately, figured out who he is already...

Moving on...

so what all do we think will be announced at MWC? seems like the bravo is the most popular, possibly the supersonic announcement (or just another lame 4g router), anyone thinking att will announce something?

i thought i read a post on the homepage bout tmo getting mighty fine close to bein broke, i dont really see any announcemnts from them if that's the case.... what else do we see coming next week?

I honestly don't think we'll hear anything, about the version of the HTC Bravo that is coming to Verizon, next week. I think we'll hear about the Bravo, but Verizon, in my opinion, will be the one to announce the Incredible. That's just my theory though.
