Help Any Apps that are known to cause problems?

I am getting random problems with my Optimus V and I was wondering if anyone could note apps that they know are troublesome to this phone. I have uninstalled several apps that are a week or so old (corresponding with the onset of my problems) but if anyone could confirm known bad apps that would be great.

Thanks!

This would be tough to answer, seeing you did not state what these problems are

You're right.

My problem is freezing up of the phone. About four times this week the touchscreen has frozen and the only thing to do is remove/replace the battery. Hadn't done that the first two weeks of ownership.
What Apps have you installed, battery saving apps have been known to cause data connection problems and lock ups,did you root the phone, what was the last app you installed before the lock ups started.have you gotten any low on storage messages.

I want to say the one that sticks out to me is "App 2 SD Free". I feel like maybe that's when it all began - after installing it and then putting multiple apps on the SD card. I wanted to wait before uninstalling that app as I like having freed up internal memory.

"Simple Sound Profile Widget" is also relatively new and I supposed I could go ahead and uninstall that now come to think of it.

I think that's it for recently added apps that I haven't already uninstalled. Unless of course they leave behind remnants of themselves like a Windows program will do.

Oh, and no warnings about being low on storage either.

Thanks!

Wow. I wish this thread had kept going. I have issues with freezing and just happen to be using the Optimus V, as well. I froze a few apps (I'm rooted and using Titanium) to see which might be the culprits. So far, my strongest suspect is Android Assistant. I'll be freezing some of my other apps in an attempt to ferret out others. Lightning Bug, for instance, and Bitdefender. I'll report back in case anyone's still stopping by.

Yeah... took me 6 months to decide to root and get rid of them, should have done that right after I got the phone! Swype never gave me problems though, and Beta doesn't either.

I had issues with Y5, seemed to have drained my battery the night after install, so uninstalled next day. I installed Watchdog for a while, it will scream at you if install an app that's using a lot of CPU. Goggles is giving me issues lately, nothing serious, only bogus battery readings.

Where
Poynt
Twydroid
Gallery
SCVNGR
Swype

The above all caused me problems when I first got my Optimus V.

I've heard facebook app can cause problems, but don't know for sure.

But a tip I have learned is if your phone doesn't respond to a touch or button, just leave it for a minute or two and it will usually catch up to speed. if you keep hitting buttons, it will freeze, then you have to take the battery out and reboot.

Yeah, I've got to force myself to refrain from pushing buttons when that happens. Shouldn't be hard to just put it aside and wait a minute or two, but it is.

I swear Facebook is buggy. It's tempting to freeze that app and try to get used to accessing FB through the browser. I don't use it all that much on the phone, anyway.

One question I have, and sorry I know it's pretty unrelated..., is can I root while keeping my same system image, apps, settings, VM# settings, etc.? I'd like to get root access with my optimus v, but I don't want to lose the 150+ apps that I've downloaded and have settings for, and I also don't want to lose my virgin mobile number, having to re-setup all the settings to get it to work with my virgin account. And I still want to run my rom, Android 2.2.1. I just want to have the option to get rid of Where, Twidroyd, AirGChat, SCVNGR, Poynt, and some other stuff.

I always suggest freezing. Wait a while and if it doesn't seem to have an adverse effect on the mobile, then uninstall.

How exactly do you "freeze" an app on the OV?

I know that I can go to "Settings", "Menu", "Applications", "Running services", and from there I am able to "stop" any applications that are currently running.

I can also use Android Assistant and "kill" selected apps that are running.

But I've never seen the term "freeze" used when referring to preventing an app from running.

Just curious.

I had the same concerns. I ended up rooting via Gingerbreak and it was so easy, it had me worried for a minute or two. Very smooth process and absolutely nothing changed on my phone. All apps were right where I left them and all the settings were the same. I've had no regrets about rooting at all. Really opens some doors.

Are you on the default ROM or have you flashed some other? I would think you need to narrow down the problem first. What services are running? You might install an AV software and scan and see if it finds anything (I like Zoner AV). 6 months ago I remember having an issue with an app causing freezing, but I don't remember which (sorry). I just use FB through a browser, for me works good, can zoom, and no issues (I don't really care about instant notifications). What Launcher do you have?

My freezing problem is getting worse instead of better in spite of the frozen, disabled apps and such. What are the chances flashing a new ROM will help?

I'm using what came with the phone. I have Bitdefender installed. In fact, it's crossed my mind that it might be running scans in the background, contributing to the freeze ups. Right now, I'm backing everything up with Titanium. Thought I'd freeze a bunch of suspect apps and then, if it's running better, start bringing them back one by one to see if I can learn anything that way. That's the tentative plan, anyway. I'm definitely open to suggestions.
