Gameloft Android Market Price Rip-off

I've noticed the biggest rip-off in my life and have to mention it.

I was disgusted when I seen a Gameloft HD game on the Android Market for

Well for me in North America its $5 from Gameloft directly or $7 from the Android Market. Since Gameloft has to give Google 30% that leaves Gameloft with about $5 either way you go.

But if you with the Android Market you do get some benefit as the game is tied to your gmail account. This allows you to install the game on all of your devices (as long as they're compatible). With purchases from Gameloft its limited to the device you bought it on and the DRM is tied to your phone number, so if you change your number, the game won't work.

If they're running a two for one then I agree getting the game for $2.50 instead of $7 out ways the downsides. But just to save $2, I don't think it's worth it. I also wouldn't call it a rip off.

I don't understand why Gameloft just don't release there own "market" app and sell their games that way, their website sucks.

That way they bypass the Android market and make it easy for users.

But game purchases from them are a waste of money anyway. As soon as you change phone all your games are useless and you have to buy them all again, that's of course if they are even available for your new device.

Until this changes they get nothing more from me.

Yeah but it sucks and if you want to download a game again you have to buy it again. Much like the website and wap site it's effectively money down the drain. Also the selection of apps is even more limited than their website.

Older AT&T phones yes, but several months ago AT&T stopped doing that so they could be compatible with the Amazon Appstore. They also released updates to a few popular models to allow sideloading.

I hate comments like that where you people say I thought it was open. Android is open to use and do what OEM's and Carriers want. AT&T used that fact that it was open to remove sideloading, just like many carriers remove tethering. But because it's open there are custom Roms like Cyanogenmod which you can install on your device to do what you want with it.

Well you can re-download the game for the same phone and in my case when I moved to a Nexus S from a Galaxy S. I just download the Galaxy S version to my Nexus S and it works. Also I don't think Gameloft making an app to sell games in would be any different then their store.

Yes but that's because it's practically the same phone, I'm sure you realise not all phones use the same SoC.

Why on earth would you go from a Galaxy S to a Nexus S anyway? That's like going from a Desire to a Nexus One, pointless.

Your probably right, since it will be made by Gameloft it will probably suck just as much as their website.
