***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm willing to bet that this pic will pale in comparison with all the media screenshots and official gorgeous model shots of this phone on the 11th.

I hope this thing releases on November 3! I think I'm so excited about this one that I'll buy it on day 1 without waiting for reviews or other nonsense.

Some did math for screen size before. But I did my own calculation to confirm the screen size from those numbers.

Vertical usable pixels = 1184
Horizontal usable pixels = 720
Dpi = 320

then squared diagonal length of usable screen is
(1184/320)^2 + (720/320)^2 = X^2
--> X= 4.33"

For the full screen, just plug 1280 in 1184 above, then X = 4.589"
I'm a little surprised that dpi is 320, previous rumors said it's 316. If dpi is 316, X becomes 4.647" for full screen, fairly close to 4.65" I've heard all along.

Of course the press shots will make this thing look epically beautiful! I bought the G1, Inspire 4G, and essentially all of my phones without reading any reviews. The exception would be the Nexus One, which I had to wait a month to buy. This will definitely be a day one buy for me, so long as it's on AT&T from day one. If not, I'll hold on to my Inspire until it is.

Dude are you serious?

Edit:

LOL we're like a pack of wolves. Sorry Mike. But yes, we already knew. Thank you.
Baahahahhahaha!

I read a couple posts up from mine and I think there was only iphone5 talk so I figured everyone was too busy looking at that.

In unrelated news: Were you guys all aware we FINALLY landed on the moon!?!?!?! WUUUUT!!!!

If there's 96 pixels unaccounted for, a reasonable guess is 32 for the notification area (thx Chief!) and 64 for lower buttons. At 320dpi, that would be exactly one fifth of an inch. You're right, that's not very large.

For dpi = 320, 96 pixels equates to 0.3" exactly. I think that's fully reserved for soft buttons. 32 pixels is only 0.1". Is notification bar that thin?

Thx for crunching the numbers. I used 320 as it was a round'ish value that's been floating around, but I don't know what the true number is.

FWIW, if this is a Pentile screen as assumed, the advertised DPI is essentially fake. With only 2 out of 3 subpixels present, a so-called 320DPI would really be only around 213DPI. Still, that'll be enough precision for me.

Man, I can't wait for this thing.

My droid's power button lost it's "spring"...and I can barely push the button to get it to turn on and off. My LED doesn't flash anymore on the latest CM, sometimes it just plays a random ringtone when the phone rings...I got problems here lol.

Re the apple link posted. That would be a devastating error by apple if it turns out to be true that there's no 4G support or Wimax. Would they really be that stupid to release such an inferior phone now, with all the high end android phones being released in the next couple of months? I know apple die hards will still buy it, but I have to believe they'd lose serious market share in the next 6 months with that phone.

Gents don't you think we should wait for some model numbers to drop before getting on this train?

Not trying to rain on the parade but the pic could be of the GT-i9250.

Well, here's my umbrella: I'm hedging my bet that the two models will be identical except for the radio within. One CDMA for Verizon and the other for the rest of the planet

Apple gets the 20 Billion dollar contract sales guaranteed so they made out just fine in this deal, it's Sprint that may have just put the nail in their own coffin.

They went with a low end spec for radio and will pay for it with a 20 Billion dollar mistake!

Hmmmm. On my old 3.7" OG Droid, notification bar is 5/32" and it wouldn't be any smaller on a 4.3" or 4.65" screen. So you're right, it has to be more than 32 pixels for notification area which isn't possible to have come out of that 96. So 96pix 0.3" soft buttons it is!

The Xoom uses software keys which are 80 pixels big. It's screen is 1280x800. Those 80 pixels are for the software keys in the lower bar which can be dimmed away by the application. Minus the 80 you get 1280x720 (HD).

I'm assuming they couldn't get a display that was that small at 1280x800... digressing here.

The one thing the Xoom did was move the notification bar into the software key bar, but I don't expect that on a phone... in portrait mode anyway. Or when we switch to landscape are the software keys going to stay in place and just rotate their orientation. That's probably best.

My actual point is the Xoom uses 80 pixels and it is more then enough on a 10" screen. This is probably going to use 66+/- pixels with 20+/- pixels for a notification bar. It should be fine.

Guess I was pretty close...

Apple launched the original iPhone without 3G, or pretty much any 'smartphone' essentials, at a time when pretty much every major smartphone on AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon had 3G. Apple won't release a product with anything they deem detrimental to the battery life of the iPhone. You may deem it an error to launch a phone on SPrint without WiMax. Personally, I think so too. But it will sell tremendously.

Yea, I read that and I was thinking the only way it works out is if Sprint is the only 4G iPhone (even if its faux 4G, WiMax).. while VZW and AT&T are still on 3G.. but it doesn't sound like that's the case..

Nobody's going to switch to Sprint just to get the same 3G iPhone they can get from VZW and AT&T.. even if it does have a spec boost..

If we've learned anything about the typical iPhone user, they don't care about CPU or RAM.. and I don't mean that as a slight. For the most part, the only technical specs that are readily apparent to them are.. screen size and radio speed.

Holy smokes!

Just a quick pause from the excitement: I think we all need to give ourselves a quick pat on the back... 50 pages of rumors, speculations and conjectures (and some sundry BS thrown in for good measure). And NO flame wars at all in any of it!

It's not only one of the most EPIC threads on Android Forums, it also has to be one of the most civil. I think we've done a stellar job of governing ourselves, and a tip of the hat to our most excellent Mod Steven58 for somehow managing it all.

Proud to be a part of it. Let's see if we can make it to 3K posts and 75 pages before October 11th, when it will likely close.

Okay, back to the Nexus Prime!

so true!!!

Yeah, no doubt people will still buy it in boat-loads.

A lot of people over at android central are saying that it's been photoshopped in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, because it's too dark and won't light up in Adobe Photoshop. I personally think it's just a dark shadow, and I also personally think that they're idiots.

But that's just me. Has anyone else looked at it in Adobe?

Not much of an Adobe user but in the article it said that this was just a portion of the whole picture. I'm guessing that the real image was the whole phone and they cropped out most of it to keep us tuned in.

Apple unveils iPhone 4S with dual-core CPU - GSMArena.com news

the upcoming iphone 4S has got a pretty bad-ass GPU (PowerVr SGX543MP2)... i really hope the Nexus Prime can compete... :/

edit: yeah i know that doesn't really fit into the nexus-prime topic, but at least the nexus priem is expected to be the iPhone's competitor... so it's not totally wrong here ;)

I'm on the live blog at thisismynext.com

Seems like all they're doing is an iPhone 4S? Wow. Same design, no 4G, although they claim their 3G will download 14mps, which is borderline lying, or else some very skewed tests.

iFail

I thought that the Prime was going to compete with the iPhone, not completely destroy it!

I've never held a nexus or even watched a vid of one in action but I just found this vid and I'm sure most of you have seen it already so don't flame me for a repost, I just need the vid to make my point. If the Prime running ICS is anything like this and is this smooth and looks this polished out of the box, then I'll be happy, minus the capacitive buttons at the bottom of course.:D
