iPhone 4S Revealed... No Regrets!

I sarted my jump from the SS Tita..err Iphone when my wife's 3g got so bad I had to upgrade hers a couple of months ago(to an Atrix). I picked up a Galaxy S2 last Sunday since I apparently got the Apple virus cleared from my system and didn't have to wait for today's "big announcement". Boy oh boy am I laughing! The Galaxy S2 is the most amazing little piece of technology I've ever held. I'm SOOO glad I went ahead and made the switch:D

I was going to start a thread about this but thought it might be classed as trolling.

Let me start by saying I am an Apple fanboy, who cashed in on the iPhone 4 a month ago (git a wedding to pay for!) And I've been dreading today, in case they released something brilliant. They didn't. This is the 3GS all over again, except this time they made everyone wait an extra four months.

Apples stock has already fallen 5% since it was announced, that's a great indication of how well its been received.

I'm still loving my SGS2 and apparently i have just turned in to a forum troll

This was apparently one of the first cards printed on their iCards app:

I was looking forward to the iPhone announcement to see how it will compare to top of the line Android phones, now I wish I hadn't gotten my hopes up, I knew it wouldn't be all that great but this is just sad. Maybe next year the iPhone will finally get 4G, then they can name the next phone the 4GS. I fell bad for the iOS fanboys I've had to listen to in my podcasts for the last week, they were expecting cake but got a twinkie.

Correct. And its appearance is identical to the iPhone 4. Very lazy upgrade in my opinion considering its 16 months since the last iPhone was launched.

I hate being the guy that defends Apple, but I suppose I can do it today. Keeping the same design means your current accessories still work on your new phone (iPhone, 3G, and 3Gs all had the same core design). I would have loved to see the Incredible, Incredible 2, Incredible 3, etc., maintain the same design. Higher installed base of same form factor = more accessory manufacturers making products for it.

The iPhone 4 to the 4S is a lot like the Droid X to the X2. Sure, the outside is the same, but the internals are a huge improvement. The camera on the iPhone 4 was outstanding, and the new camera looks to be even better. The A4 was a solid chip (800mhz Cortex A8 w/SGX535), but the A5 is a killer chip (dual-core Cortex A9 w/SGX543). I'm curious to see if it's underclocked as usual, IE, 800-850mhz.

In terms of guts, this was a bigger jump than the iPhone 3Gs to the iPhone 4. And, I'd love to have that GPU and camera on an Android device, just not the UC'ed CPU nor the software.

I would think that with Bluetooth and other standard connectors, you wouldn't need a device to be physically the same size as an older device for it to work. With BT, you don't need to physically plug your device into a slot that is perfectly snug. If you look at car mounts for phones, they make universal ones that fit many different phones of different sizes. I have one that fit both my old phone and my new phone and they were from different manufacturers.

That's not necessarily true. I think accessories (like speaker docks) that worked with the older iTouches don't work with the current gen iTouch because Apple has moved pins around.

The thing is that Apple is aiming to just maintain with this device. Sure, it's a nice handset. It's not nicer than anything else on the market. Both WP7 and Android have devices out there that are the same or better and inside of 6 months, it'll be an underpowered device compared to what is on the market. Android has been eating Apple's lunch in the phone market for a number of reasons. Apple needs to combat that. Instead they roll out a handset that gives people who are using a 3GS a reason to upgrade, but they were already in Apple's camp anyway. There's no reason for an iPhone 4 owner to pay an ETF to upgrade early though I'm sure some sheep will. If you currently own an Android or WP7 phone, there is nothing at all in a 4S that would make you want to jump ship. They have no new, amazing features that you can't find in any other OS that are worth jumping for. Apple is not going to grow it's market share with this phone.

its not even gonna have 4G/LTE. Im sure they are saving that for the actual iPhone 5 due out in 6 months or something. That seems to be apples standard way of milking every dollar they can out of people.
Make a device, make tons-o-cash. Make minor upgrades a year later, sell those minor upgrades to the same people, plus 5 more who were on the fence and make even more tons-o-cash. so on and so on and so on.

Looks like the Bionic, Vigor, Prime and Spyder will be eating this device up for lunch. The biggest omission is LTE even though I didn't expect it to have LTE.

IMO, It's gonna be an Android X-mas this year at least in terms of VZW sales. No reason to jump from Iphone 4 to the 4s without LTE unless they have some kind of promotion that let's them trade in their 4 for a 4s.

Yeah, it might have worked for the 3g to the 3gs but not this time.
