Atrix is now EOL

So, there were rumours a couple of months ago about there being a new Atrix. Many of us dismissed those rumors and thought that a leaked pic was a fake. Of course, a few weeks ago, things became official as Motorola began speaking about a new model believed to be the Atrix. Well now I can tell you guys it will be happening sooner than later.

The original Atrix has now been designated as EOL (end of life) meaning once remaining inventory has been sold, no more models will be shipped out. So I'm pretty sure we'll see the new Atrix within a month. I don't think it'll be smart to come out same time as the iPhone. The Galasy S II hits shelves this Sunday. I'm thinking Iphone 5 comes out around the 15th. Atrix II (Edison?) near the end of October?

I really hope the new Atrix does have LTE on board, and it would be just awkward to have a new Atrix with a larger display and different processor. (TI-omap, clocked at 1ghz) which i prefer is the Nvidia Tegra 2 processor.

Well, EOL is usually a VENDOR decision, not the Manufacturer. In other words, I doubt Moto has tagged it EOL. Perhaps AT&T has it at EOL in their POS/Inventory system.

I'll submit for consideration the Blackberry Curve 8300 series released in 2007. Most carriers EOL'd it years ago. Yet, many companies STILL insist on issuing them to their staff (They were little work-horse units). And, some carriers in other countries still use them. (Heck, as of last Fall, BOOST Mobile here in the states still sold them!) So, RIM still manufactures them.

So, while one (or more) carrier may EOL it, and not get any more in when their supplies are depleted, Motorola will still be shipping them for other carriers. Example, if AT&T EOL's it, and Orange UK keeps selling them, then Moto has to keep making/shippping them.

As for the speculation on the "Atrix 2" (AKA: "EDISON" or "Atrix HD") - I've read several RUMORS (keep that word in mind!). Some of the RUMORS say it will be LTE, others say it will not.

We'll know for sure when the FCC filing is made. Because, what ever is filed with the FCC for their stamp of approval is what it will be. They can't change it once's it's got the FCC stamp on it.

Good points on the EOL explanation. I forgot about the international carriers who also get the Atrix. Either way, it's been pretty succesful on AT&T, so unless they knew a new version was on its way, I don't understand why they would decide to make it EOL.

Oh, they know a replacement is on it's way. We (the public) just don't know that much about it.

Heck, they knew there was a replacement for it months ago. We've been hearing rumors and seeing leaked pictures for a while.

It's just they are not releasing any details on it yet. Either they don't want it overshadowed by the iPhone 5, or they haven't fully finalized it... YET.

Either way, there is an Atrix2/Edison/AtrixHD on it's way, in some form, with or without LTE, and will be in the stores sometime before they do an Atrix3!!! That's about all we know for sure!

Getting the Galaxy S2 ATT. Atrix was merely a stop gap. MIGHT wait for the Nexus Prime, but if it is delayed to GSM band as long as the first two I'll pass.
Sure hated paying so much for a phone that didn't turn out to be that great. Don't get me wrong, it served its purpose but I'm excited to get a new one.

If the LTE devices have the same crappy battery life as the Verizon LTE devices, I'll stick with the Atrix for quite a while. I don't mind slower speeds to actually be able to use my phone all day. When going to Disneyland (somewhere where 4g Verizon is available), my Thunderbolt would fully discharge in my pocket in just a few hours with no use.

It's how the ELECTRONICS industry works. By the time a new phone is hitting store shelves, the replacement for it is usually already in the works.

As the Atrix 2/Atrix HD... whatever it's being called is being prepped for manufacture, there is probably already a team working on the Atrix 3.

Actually, those are just SPECULATION. We've seen no CONFIRMED spec's on the Atrix 2,yet.
For every rumors about what it will or won't have, there's another rumor saying the opposite.

I prefer to hold off judgement until I see the FCC filings. Because, what get's the stamp of approval by the FCC is what will be built.

I, for one, got the Atrix 4g solely for its use with the lapdock (AKA laptop dock). I like to do my schoolwork on the go and I like to use a full tactile keyboard. I've found that it is as handy as a laptop to sit at Starbucks and surf, but I take all the files and pictures and 100% of my contacts with me even when I don't have the dock. This has come in handy a number of times.

I don't mind seeing my Atrix 4g getting a replacement so long as app developers continue to optimize products for the phone and the dock. Hopefully the new Atrix will use the same lapdock. Any info in that department?

What's in question are the details. The AT&T announcement was very VAGUE... saying only Dual Core CPU, but what cpu? We know it's going to have an 8MP camera... but is the front camera getting updated?

No one ever doubted that there will be an Atrix 2.
But, I will maintain that, just because AT&T is bringing out the Atrix 2 does not mean our phone is EOL.
-In the past, AT&T has sold older versions of phones next to the newer ones, at a lower price (Especially with Smartphones.)
-Only AT&T has said they will carry the Atrix 2. I'm certian that there are other carriers that will still be selling the Atrix, at least for a while.

I am disappointed that it's going to be GB, not ICS.
Interesting that they are taking the HSDPA to a 21 Mbps (Cat 14) radio. Hopefully, that means that they will be expanding the HSDPA so that we can see full Cat 10 (14 Mbps) on our units. Scuttlebutt with the AT&T techs I know has been the HSDPA deployment/upgrades are on hold for LTE roll outs. At least here in the Atlanta market.

I'm very happy that the specs aren't better. It's basically just a minor spec bump for the most part, and the storage amount actually went DOWN! Very odd indeed. I'll be happy with my Atrix 4G for the next two years. It's a fantastic phone.

Less storage memory but better camera, video, graphics and better radio for HSPA+. This phone is already better than the new iPhone. It's annoying to have a new Atrix model so soon that isn't revolutionary better but it is more than worth the $99 price with a 2 year agreement.

So, no, the Atrix is NOT EOL. All you have done is ASSUME that the Atrix is EOL because there is a replacement model coming out....Unless you have some kind of Motorola document showing they have ceased production on this model.

I can't believe Motorola made and released another atrix in 8 freakin months. Not only that but the Atrix 2 is more of a letdown then the iphony 4s. Google needs to seriously step in and do something about all these devices coming out so fast. That's the only reason why I like apple. Because you know for sure your going to get the latest updates for 2+ years with their devices. There should be one standard date to rollout android updates for all carriers. Not 6-12 months later down the road!

The fact that I work for AT&T and have confirmed that we have assigned it as EOL, since my post, is not an assumption. The Atrix is EOL, as far as AT&T is concerned. Being that I live in the US, I don't care about what international carriers are doing. So here in the US, AT&T has designated EOL.

If you read my original post, I never said I think the Atrix is EOL because a new model is coming out. I said the Atrix IS EOL therefore I THINK that a new model is coming out soon.

If you just care to be right, you can just say so and I will gladly give you the argument.

The Atrix itself is not EOL.... AT&T has just tagged it as EOL in their POS system.

You are talking JUST AT&T... I'm talking the phone in general.

This forum is not limited to people in the US. This is how you should have worded your first post. "AT&T has marked the Atrix as EOL in their POS system."

This forum is not limited to people in the U.S. You made a BROAD statement that the Atrix is EOL. This means that anyone in any country on any carrier would be confused. You may not care what other carriers and countries do, but remember, this is not the "Atrix on AT&T only" forum.
