I mentioned this in the gigantic thread but I'll say again. Verizon is obviously holding their cards tight, so this means less people know anything at all. Second, they may be doing the old trick of releasing different versions of false info and threatening to fire the person/people who get caught spreading that particular rumor. In upper management, you only have to tell a few of your top brass conflicting info and then you know who spread it. Steve Jobs was notorious for this.

Edit: I have to add that this is much bigger than just VZW. You have Google and Samsung employees as well. It is just shocking that so many people are involved and they have managed to keep the info confusing at best.

I think its all in an effort to create tech site buzz. The only way to get people excited about a phone before its announced is to let people know it exists then let them guess at the specs. Do you think this subforum (specifically the spec thread) would be anywhere near this large with known specs? Back on track, I'd say NFC is almost guaranteed. I'm excited for the supposed face lock app that uses the FF camera.

I'm Positive that Verizon knows Exactly what they're doing. I know a High level Verizon Tester (His son and my son went to the same pre-school). And at his son's birthday party earlier this year we got to talking phones. He then pulled a Droid 3 out of his pocket and was showing it to me, and this was a month+ before it was released. He told me that they have people that monitor the major forums to see what people are saying about up and coming devices. He also told me that all the "accidental" Gingerbread releases and leaks that were coming out for the Droid X weren't necessarily "accidental".

And no, I don't talk to him that much any more, and he always refused to ever give me details about specs and release dates ... So I can't get any info out of him ... Wish I could though.

Apple is one of the most ridiculously secretive civilian companies that I have ever known. An atmosphere of paranoia is ever present because they actively fire those who leak info. Most of the employees who work at the headquarters don't even know what is about to be released. The top secret projects are behind many doors and even in the rooms that the projects are being worked on, there is a black veil placed over the product and a red light is turned on to warn others that the project is exposed. Crazy!!

I've convinced myself Verizon/Samsung/Google/whomever has given financial incentive to testers not to leak specs and pics, maybe in the form of a bonus for a "clean" launch. The lack of so little solid info is mind blowing.

With the effort Samsung has put into spewing SGSII updates 2x daily on Facebook, they alone have a vested interest to control the flow of info. And Verizon only seems to care that my next phone is with them, evidenced by the constant stream of iPhone & Blackberry offers I've been receiving.

Thank you! I knew that I had heard it called something besides disinformation before.

At any rate, it just seems unprecedented that 3 separate companies have managed to keep us completely confused about what's going to be announced. They couldn't stop all leaks and perhaps the one with the lower specs is correct or perhaps not. Nobody who usually knows this stuff is completely sure! I think that multiple phones being tested and possibly announced at the same time adds to this effect.
