Network vision & LTE rollout

LTE devices start selling mid next year, WiMAX devices no longer sold, LTE mostly complete by 2013?

Wimax devices will keep being sold through 2012...but Sprint's obligation to Clear only goes through the end of '12...although it will likely be extended to allow WiMax phones to continue to use the network for a while longer.

And I'm eligble for an upgrade now. Don't know what to do. There's Wimax in my city (Philadelphia) but if it's not going to be improved then there's no reason to get a Wimax device. Thoughts?

If you upgrade now I would imagine WiMAX will be available to you until you can upgrade again. I would base your decision on how bad you think you need a new phone now and not worry about LTE yet.

LTE devices won't be available until the middle of next year. I suspect HTC's next phone in the EVO line will be Sprint's first LTE handset, much like the OG EVO was the first WiMax phone. If you can wait that long, go for it. However, Sprint also said they will support WiMax through 2013, so if you buy a WiMax phone now it will still be supported until your next upgrade (when you can pick up an LTE phone).

This is all very exciting, I really hope Sprint is able to keep with their aggressive schedule. Good to see so many big players in wireless on board with them.

I definitely need an upgrade. Been rocking the hero for far too long. It's too slow and always running out of memory. And this is with it being rooted, overclocked, and running Firerat's mod.

From what I've read so far I think this is all exciting too. By 2013 I will have a couple of upgrades available even under the "new to you" plan so it'll all be good. Going to have to do some more reading...was in a meeting when all of this was going down so I missed it and am just trying to catch up.

Will probably grab SGS2, but am waiting on a) today's Sprint's network vision presentation, b) Nexus Prime / ICS announcement, c) any maintenance updates to solve the issues with SGS2 people report in the forums.

I love my Evo 3D...the SGSII looks pretty badass. The nexus prime/ics announcement has been pushed back so you may have to wait a bit longer for that. If you are still stuck with a Hero, you should definitely upgrade to the 3D or SGSII now.

Yup, me too I guess, although we weren't wrong that the EVO 3D does support it. Hey, all it was is speculation anyway :D I still have noticed better reception with both 3G and 4G and how that reception has occurred really doesn't matter to me!

Would be nice if the EVO 3D supported LTE for when it comes out. I get an upgrade every 6 months though so I'll likely get an LTE device right when they launch either way.

By the time rollout is completed I'll be ready to upgrade anyway, and I use wifi a lot.

Yeah me too...I might do it before that ...They'res goin to be sum nice phones cummin out soon...the Prime for one...(Verizon...) ...we'll see what Sprint will have to offer...I had the Photon which was great except for the constant freezin...So I took it back for the EVO 3d...then no reception at all in my House 0-1 bar...They sent me the Airave...That fixed that 6 bars...So I'm happy right now...But cum around Xmas time maybe I'll get myself a present...We'll have to see whats out by then...But you know its like every three months there's sumthin else thats better...
